Notes for H
ENRY KIBLER:
The definitive work on the descendants of Henry Kibler's son Adam is "Some Kiblers from the Shenandoah Valley" by Donald Ping. Although Donald Ping didn't copyright his work, and he had a very generous attitude towards it, I will only use the info that is most directly related to our family. For a more complete understanding of this family, please consult his original work.

Briefly, Henry Kibler (Heinrich Kuebler or Kubler] was entered as a Revolutionary Patriot to the roles of the DAR thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Carol Nimmer, Kibler Family Historian. Although Henry did not fight in the Revolutionary War, records are on file that indicated he donated mutton and money to the cause. A plaque was placed on his grave by the Elisha Dick Chapter of the DAR on May 4, 1981. The grave is on the Robert Kemp Farm, just outside of Luray, Page Co., VA. Pictures of the original house are available in "Some Kiblers of the Shenandoah Valley" by Donald Ping. I went and visited the site in the spring of 1995. Robert Kemp (son or grandson of the Robert Kemp from the 1927 visit, was very cordial, despite the fact that I am sure he gets pestered frequently by people wanting to see the grave. The foundation of Henry's home is still standing. The farmland is lush, green and rolling. This particular part is very steep, on a Virginia ridge. It was beautiful. It made me feel like I had just stepped back into Colonial Virginia. I remember calling my mother Betty Fasnacht DeVore several times while I was there. I kept telling her over and over that it felt like coming home!! In all fairness, it could have been because I had read about this area so much, and was now finally seeing it for myself!!

The Shenandoah Valley is absolutely breathtaking!!

Henry is believed to have been of German descent, from the Palatinate region, but there is some indication that the Kiblers were originally from Switzerland, and then migrated to Germany. It is believed that he came to America abt 1764. In 1777 Henry purchased land in the Sheanandoah Valley from William Nail and Michael Conn. On Aug 29, 1782 he signed an indenture to Michael Conn for 24 lbs. for 64 acres of land. From this transaction we discover his wife's name was Mary.
