First Generation

1. Richard SISSON was born about 1750 in Renssalaer Co., NY. He died 1825 in Norway, Herkimer Co., NY and was buried in Barnes Street Cemetery, Norway, NY.

The core of information on this family comes from "Norway Tidings," Vol. 3, No. 4 (April 1889), p. 4. The family moved from Renssalaer County to Norway, Herkimer County, NY, in 1799. Richard and Sarah spent their last years with their son-in-law Abel Johnson of Black Creek.

Richard married Sarah REYNOLDS. Sarah died 1821 and was buried in Black Creek Church Cemetery, Norway, NY.

From Norway Tidings, p. 4 (1889?): Mrs. Sisson's mother whose name by second marriage became Mott, lived in town after she was 100 years of age, and was able at that extreme age to travel long distances to visit her grandchildren. She died in Utica when 107. Possibly some of our readers may remember "Old Granny Mott."

Nancy SISSON.

Nancy did not move to Norway with her parents. This may be the Nancy Sisson who married Asa Crandall of Greenwich, NY. He was born December 31 (or January 7), 1776, son of Asa and Nancy/Ann (Coon) Crandall. Nancy and Asa had a son, Asa Sisson Crandall.
