HAlGHT, Albert, jurist, was born in Ellicottville, N.Y., Feb. 20, 1842; son of Henry and Sarah (Sisson) Haight; grandson of Ambrose and Clarinda (Laphan) Haight, and a descendant of Simon Haight, who came to America from Dorchester, England, in 1628. He was educated at Springville academy, N.Y., and was admitted to the bar in 1863. He held several local offices and was elected county judge of Erie county in 1872; justice of the supreme court of the 8th judicial district, 1876, for a term of fourteen years, and was re-elected in 1890. During his service in the supreme court he was appointed successively associate justice of the general term of the supreme court for the 5th department by Governor Cleveland in 1884, and associate judge of the second division of the court of appeals by Governor Hill in 1892. In 1894 he was elected to the office of associate judge of the court of appeals for a term of fourteen years. |

According to the reasoning of descendant Truex N. Upchurch, Betsey L. Sisson and her husband Isaac Martin Aldrich and their family must have moved from Collins, Erie County, New York, to Barry County, Michigan in late 1849 or early 1850, since they are on the Barry County 1850 census showing a seven month old son who was born in New York State. From there they moved to Bollinger County, Missouri, sometime between late 1854 and early 1856, according to family tradition reported by Jackie Huffman. Betsey's birth date is noted in her daughter Lydia's Bibles and it is also on Betsey's cemetery head stone.

From the Historical Gazetteer and Biographical Memorial of Cattaraugus Co., New York, pub 1893, "History of the Town of Persia - Chapter 42, page 991: "Millen T. Hill's grandfather came from Scotland and settled in Rhode Island, and afterward removed to Genesee county [NY]. An uncle of his mother, one MacMillan by name, bearing the title in his native country (Scotland) of Lord Sterling, was a member of the court-martial which tried and sentences Major Andre. At the age of two years Millen T. Hill came to Cattaraugus county with his parents who settled in what is now New Albion. Mr Hill came to Lodi in 1827 and has been a resident of what is now the village of Gowanda ever since he learned the trade of cabinet-maker in Lodi, which business he carred on many years. Afterward dor a number of years he carried on the lumber business, purchasing a saw-mill on Thatcher brook which had been built by Pheneas Spencer. In 1856 he began manufacturing cheese boxes. He married Patience, daughter of Willard and Ruth (Sisson) Slocum.
