1655. Erastus R. SISSON-984 (Samuel , Samuel M. , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born about 1806 in Albany Co., New York. He died on 18 Apr 1876 in Columbia, Platte Co., Nebraska.

According to the Sisson Newsletter, v 6 #1 p 16, "Erastus and Lois went to Dunkirk, NY, and then in 1836 to Jackson County, Michigan, and were living there in 1842. The last two children, in light of their birth dates, may actually be grandchildren. Erastus was a farmer with a $400 valuation in 1850." Larry Lyon says that all of the children are Erastus' own, not grandchildren.

Samuel Sisson was twin to his sister Ann, a merchant, postmaster, and farmer. He and his wife Harriet Cole, also reported as Harriet Egnor, moved from "Almira, New York" to Pennsylvania with his brothers Putnam, Theodore, and Alvin. Besides the children named here, there were three more born to Samuel and Harriet. Samuel's age at death in 1869: 81year, 8 months, 2 days. Rosamond married (MRIN:567) Henry Dusenbury HITT-853, son of Stephen HITT-11066 and Phebe STAFFORD-33291 (MRIN:12409), on 1 Nov 1841. Henry was born on 9 Feb 1817 in Peru, Clinton Co., NY. He died on 14 Feb 1899 in McLane, Erie Co., PA. He was buried in McLane Cemetery.

Henry's biography is given in the book "History of Erie County, Pennsylvania, Part VI, Township Biographies, Washington Township," (Warner, Beers & Co., Chicago, 1884), by Samuel P. Bates, p. 206.

Henry had a quarter mile race track where he raised and trained race horses. He built a three-story building with a store at street level, living quarters on the second floor, and a ballroom on the third floor. People from Erie would come out by stage and hold parties and dances in the ballroom.

Putnam (or Putman) Sisson was a farmer and went from "Almira, New York" to Pennsylvania with his brothers Samuel, Theodore and Alvin. The family is listed in the Washington Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, censuses for 1850 and 1860. In 1850 he was listed as worth $800; in 1860 $2000. According to records of Karen Lechner, 622 3rd St SW, Waseca, Minnesota 56093, Putnam and Sally (Merriman) Sisson's last child, Fanny Sisson, was born 31 Jan 1860, and Putnam and Esther (Perry) Sisson's first child, Perry Sisson, was born 10 Jan 1860.

Putnam married (MRIN:576) Sally MERRIMAN-5773, daughter of Samuel MERRIMAN-23377, before 1837 in Otsego Co., New York. Sally was born about 1814. She died on 5 Feb 1859. She was buried in McLane Cem, Erie, Erie Co., Pennsylvania.

Eli H. Sisson fought in the Civil War. He enlisted in the 145th Pennsylvania Volunteers, company B, in 1862. He fought at Fredricksburg and Gettysburg where he was shot in the left wrist by a minnie ball. He received a pension of $2 a month.

Theodore went to Erie County, Pennsylvania, from Elmira, New York, with his brothers Samuel, Putnam and Alvin. Some sources report a first wife Charlotta. He is buried in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Jackson, Pennsylvania. All five of his children are mentioned in his will, written in 1872.

Alanson Sisson was born on the Sisson Hill Farm in Unadilla, Otsego County, Ne York. He was a Democrat, a farmer, a member of the Baptist Church, and he owned the original homestead after his father Aaron died. In addition to the chidren listed here, they may also have had a son Alvin in 1841. Alanson Sisson died of "disease of heart." Alvin Sisson went with his brothers Samuel, Putnam, and Theodore from "Almira, New York" to Erie County, Pennsylvania. This could be the Alvin Sisson in the Fairfield, Herkimer County, New York, 1850 census, with a wife and two children After his wife Miriam Morse's death in 1853, Alvin lived with his sister Rosemund in Pennsylvania until she died, and then went to Unadilla to live with his nephew Fred Earl, son of Alvin's sister Harriet.
