Roland was raised by William Warren and Anna Belle Teagarden Anderson of Endicott, NE. Roland was 5'6" tall and had blue eyes and black hair (even up to age 80). When William Anderson died in 1895, Anna Belle returned to Ohio with her two daughters and Roland, first to Hancock County and then to Hanover, Licking County, near her parents.

Roland worked at Everett Glass Works (later Heisey Glass Co.) and at American Bottle. He had a bicycle shop. He worked at the Buckeye Rolling Mill and was a B & O railroad air brake mechanic. He worked at Pure Oil from 1922 to 1941, then at Owens-Corning for 14 years as a pipe fitter. He played the slide trombone and piano, and sang high tenor in several quartets in the Newark area. Roland raised cattle on his farm until 1934, when the family lost the farm.

Roland married (MRIN:10830) Emma Almira REYNARD-29204, daughter of Franklin Pierce REYNARD-29205 and Anna MILLS-29206 (MRIN:10831), on 30 Jun 1915 in Newark, Licking Co., OH. Emma was born on 12 Sep 1897 in Utica, Licking Co., OH. She died on 8 Feb 1941 in Granville, Licking Co., OH. She was buried in Welsh Hills Cemetery, Granville, OH.

Emma had black hair and brown eyes. She worked in a boarding house. After her marriage she baked bread and pecan rolls and her older sons delivered them on bikes. She died of thrombosis (blood clot to the brain) as a result of being gored by a young heifer. She was gored in the upper part of her leg in approximately 1935. She was partially paralyzed and died on her 25th wedding anniversary.
