James Roger Sisson served as a technical sergeant in the 106th Infantry Division. In January, 1945, after having fought in the Battle of the Bulge, he was declared missing in action. He was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for nearly six months until being liberated on Good Friday, 1945, by troops commanded by General George Patton. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, three Battle Stars, and numerous other citations. He attended Providence College on the GI Bill after his service.
In 1954, Roger was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where he served for three consecutive terms representing Ward 9 in Fall RIver and the Town of Somerset.
Roger was part owner and operator of the Fall River radio station, WALE, where he had an early morning radio program, "The Somerset Story."

SOUTH BERNE DeWitt J. Sisson, 94, died peacefully on January 13, 2004 surrounded by his family. He was born at the family home on West Mountain in Berne, the son of Edward and May (Deitz) Sisson. He lived and worked on the family farm until he was a young man and was able to purchase his grandfather's farm near South Berne. It was there that he and his wife, Helen, raised their family. Eventually, they built a new house up the road in one of the farm's hay fields with a beautiful view of Lake Onderdonk and the Catskill Mountains. This house was a great source of pride for him in that Helen designed the plans and he built it. That the farmland remained in the family was very important to him and, to this day, many family members own homes on land that was once part of the original farm. DeWitt was employed through the years in many different occupations including on the railroad and at a golf course as a young man as well as various construction companies in the area. He is best known as a stellar bridge builder, serving as superintendent on jobs that took him from Albany to Syracuse to the Adirondacks and Catskills and even Connecticut. After retiring, he could always be found in his beloved barn doing carpentry work. The sound of the table saw was a constant in the background. He enjoyed making picnic tables, frames for his beehives and picture frames using old siding from the original barn on the farm. If you needed it, he could make it. By all accounts, he was a master carpenter. During the winters of his retirement, his passion was his home in St. Cloud, Fla. Purchased when the streets were still sand, he watched as homes were constructed, roads were paved and the population grew. Ever ambitious, he spent his time there working on a good friend's cattle ranch. A trip to Fla. was never complete without him taking you to the ranch to see the registered cattle, alligators in the wild and the orange groves. After moving to the Eddy Heritage House in Troy in 2001, he found even more things to keep him busy. He served on the resident advisory board and discovered he was a champion bingo player. He also experienced many things for the first time in his life including a trip to the mall, Saratoga Racetrack and a steamboat cruise on Lake George, to name a few. He looked forward to monthly trips to the Dollar Store and local eateries. All of this aside, he will tell you that the best thing he discovered there was that you were never too old to make a new friend.
