Paul Milton Hockett 9/16/1915-7/21/1994
    Paul Milton Hockett was born September 16, 1915 on a farm west of Union, Iowa to Ross and Susie Glenn Hockett.  Paul's mother died when he was 2 years old.  He and his sister Mry were raised by his father Ross and stepmother Hester.
    Paul attended Chester Country School and graduated from New Providence High School in 1933.  Following graduation, he lived at home and farmed with his father for 3 years.  He purchased a neighboring farm in 1936, which became his home for his entire life.
    Paul was united in marriage to Romanie Sisson December 31, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa.  They had two sons: Vernon and Ronald.
    While raising his family and farming, he was catively involved in church, community and volunteer activities.  He was a lifetime member of Chester Church and served the church in various ways throughout his life. Paul served on the New Providence school board for 10 years (3 years as president), was on ASCS committee for 10 years, was president of Hardin Co. Historical Society 2 years, and held offices in Chester Cemetery Association.  He was active in Gideons International for several years (since 1968).  He worked as a volunteer at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, earning an award for over 2000 hours service.
    Paul retired from farming in 1978, but continued to live on the farm and pursued many hobbies.  His interest in restoring antiques started with a 1929 Model "A" Ford.  He later restored an antique fire engine, farm implements, and horse drawn machinery.  He also enjoyed working with wood and made several things from wood grown in his own timber.  Paul was an avid reader and was especially interested in Civil War history.  He also maintained an active interest in politics and kept abreast of current affairs.
    He is remembered by his living family: wife Romaine, stepmother Hester, son Vernon and wife Linda, grandchildren Lori, Joe, and Greg, son Ronald and wife Jan, grandchildren Karen and Mary, and a host of friends.
