Shirland's WWI Draft Registration, signed June 5, 1917, states that he was born Jan. 28, 1890, in Decker, IN. He was single at the time and was supporting his mother and his two children. He was a building contractor.

In the 1930 census, Shirland was living in Memphis, TN, with wife Gertrude E. (age 47), and children Ora Oliver (13), Alfreda (12), Lorraine Oliver (9), Fay (8), and Gertrude (6). Shirland was listed as a social worker in the Salvation Army.

Dallas Morning News, July 15, 1930:
A grade crossing accident in Grenada, MS, killed three people said to be from Memphis, TN, where a train hit the automobile in which they were riding. The dead were: Alfreda Sisson, age 12; Lorraine Oliver, age 9; Mrs. Gertrude Sisson, age 50. Four other occupants of the car were in serious condition in the hospital.

Reference: Maude's death certificate. Seivert was a teacher. Seivert and Maude are both buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, Ohio.
