Henry married (MRIN:1327) Alathea HOLDRED-10950 on 13 Apr 1794 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Alathea was born about 1768. She died on 18 Feb 1798.

Alathea Holdred was "of Swansea" when she married Henry Sisson.

Henry also married ( 2:MRIN:1328) Hannah COLLINS-5234, daughter of Charles COLLINS-12662 and Hannah TURNER-12352 (MRIN:2527), on 31 Aug 1803 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. Hannah was born on 3 Jul 1780.

329. Samuel M. SISSON-2362 (Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 4 Dec 1747 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island.

Samuel married (MRIN:120) Lucy-1998 about 1768 in Dutchess Co., New York. Lucy was born about 1749 in Washington, Kent Co., Rhode Island.

330. John SISSON-11575 (Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 10 Apr 1749 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. He died on 21 Oct 1818 in Unadilla, Otsego Co., New York. He was buried in Sisson Hill Cemetery.

John was a farmer and a Jackson Democrat. His earmark was a hole through right ear and a half-penny in the underside of the left ear. He was a private from Hoosick, New York, in the 14th Albany Company militia from 1779 to 1780. He is listed in the DAR Patriot Index as a Private from New York. He resided at one time in Vermont and took part in the Battle of Bennington, and later was in the 4th Regulars from Dutchess County, New York, under Col. van Rensselaer. Certificates for pay are #24432 under Jacob Yates in Col. Peter Yates Regiment, #27291 in Lt. Col. John Rensselaer's Regiment (Vol. 5, p. 71 of Certificates of the Treasury in custody of the University of New York in the State Library, Albany, N.Y.) He was awarded a bounty warrant. He was a fence-viewer and pathmaster in Unadilla, Otsego County, New York. He settled in Susquehanna Road (near Wellsbridge), then "moved back upon the hills" in 1790. He was involved in several land dealings in Unadilla in 1803-1812. A map of the Unadilla region from 1868 atlas - shows John's lands and those of surrounding neighbors. The neighbors have surnames of future Sisson spouses. John is buried in Unadilla. He died intestate. His administration papers recorded in Otsego County 9 Nov 1818 show John's sons Wright Sisson and Aaron Sisson administrators of John's estate, the signed oaths of Eber Ferris and Bethuel Laseur/Lasure promising to appraise John's personal property, and their actual inventory (including what appear to be Wright's and Aaron's actual signatures). The inventory lists "1 Old Gunn," "1 pr Velvet pantaloons," "1 Great Bible," "Real Estate 200 Acres of Land appraised at $2500," among many other items. He owned a total of $3467.31 worth of goods and real estate, plus $452.52 in loans owed to him, a pretty prosperous man. See: Sisson Newsletter, v.2, no.2; The Crandall Genealogy by John C. John and Alcha are buried in the Sisson Hill Cemetery. In "Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Vol. 4" their burial is listed as "Otten Farm Cemetery", which is incorrect. This notation shows up frequently in DAR records. The "Otten Farm Cemetery" should be called the "Blanchard Cemetery" and is located about two miles from the Sisson Hill Cemetery.

"A chapter entitled 'History of Sisson Hill  The reminiscences of Seth L. Youmans of Wells Bridge' are recorded in every account of early local history relative to East Unadilla.  The Unadilla times, Editor Lynn P. Earl, published much local history . . .This article appeared in 1926
  A stranger traveling through the Susquehanna Valley may notice, as he crosses the Sand Hill Creek, a hill to the north, of a peculiar formation with some resemblance to an inverted bowl.  This hill is bounded on the east and west by branches of the Sand Hill Creek . . .I find in looking at an old map of Otsego County that one of the first settlers of the town of Unadilla was John Sisson, and his first place of settlement was near the river . . . in the year 1784.
   One of the first things our old pioneers had discovered by experience was that lands that were grown to pine or hemlock or evergree trees had not the rich soil that the hardwood timbers of beech, birch and maple, that shed their leaves annually thereby enriching the soil. Mr. Sisson profitting by experience found the place, where he had first located, being covered with the evergreen trees, and also being on the river trail of the Indians of Brandt and Butler we find that, in the year 1786 he had removed to the highlands of hard wood, that is on Sisson Hill; and on the hillside near where Samuel M. Sisson now lives he built his new home in the wilderness.
  I find that on the map mentioned above, that Prospect Hillø is the name given but no such name is known for such an elevation at the present, and Sisson Hill it will be for all time to come. . . .(other family members build on the hill) . . .The old stone house has long since been torn down and nothing remains on the site but the orchard, lilac bush and other shrubbery usually found about such ruins.
  Let us look back to the year 1785 . . John Sisson . . .had his trusty rifle by his side as he stands looking down the valley of the Susquehanna and methinks I hear him soliloquize with himself, seeming to say he fears trouble from the Indians, who with their band of Tory outlaws near the mouth of the Unadilla river may do him harm; may burn his house and either kill or carry into captivity Mollie and babes in his absence as his house is on the old Susquehanna trail and you can never trust either an Indian or his Tory friend. ŒI like this place, it seems to be a better soil and if Mollie chooses I will remove and build me a home down by the spring as I have made but a small clearning down by the river, and the soil is not very good. I will speak to her about my plans as soon as I get home Methinks I see him in counsel with his young wife and she is ready to remove, for she too fears the Indians, who, led by Brandt and Butler, are committing their depredations elsewhere. The next picture brought to my mind is that of him with his oxen as he cuts the logs and is having them drawn together near the spring, where they have selected a site to build their new house. I see a small party of men as they gather to help him make the house; one man on each corner with an axe hits the logs as they are handed up and placed in position. Higher and higher they pile them up and then they are ready for the roof, which is of the same logs split and hewn down as boards. We will not omit the fireplace, which is built of stone picked from the fields; or the jug of whiskey, which was passed quite frequently, for who did not drink the whiskey of olden time. We now see the house completed and the family settled in their home. There yet remains to be built, however, the barn and outbuildings for the faithful oxen, and a shed for the cow. The land must be cleared for the crops of corn, potatoes and rye. And we will have a small piece of flax. The forest will furnish meat, for both the bear and deer are natives of the land. The wolves are about in the night; their cries, with the barking of the foxes are oftimes heard and occasionally the wail of the panther mingled with the hooting of the owl are heard. As far as one can see it is an unbroken wilderness and the neighbors are few and far between. . .
  . . .As the years go by we find members of the Sisson families scattered about the town and we find them honored and trusted by the people. For the last fifty years we find scaracely a town office but what has been filled by one of the Sissons, and later find them scattered all over the State of New York. They can trace their origin from the good old Sisson families of Sisson Hill. . .

John married (MRIN:160) Alcha CRANDALL-11570, daughter of Samuel CRANDALL-12702 and Sarah WILSON-12210 (MRIN:5016), in 1770 in Dutchess Co., New York. Alcha was born on 21 May 1755 in Shaftsbury, Bennington Co., Vermont. She died on 12 Aug 1832 in Unadilla, Otsego Co., New York. She was buried in Sisson Hill Cemetery.

Alcha Crandall's ancestry is Peter 1, Samuel 2, 3, Alcha 4, according to an article written about a Joshua Sisson in the book "History of Gibson County, Indiana" and the book "Samuel Gorton of Rhode Island and his Ancestors." The Sisson Newsletter for Spring 2000 (v 14, #2) says that "Alcha was the daughter of Samuel Crandall, Jr. and Sarah Warden OR Samuel Crandall and Sarah Wilson. Both Samuels are descendants fo Elder John Crandall." The Sisson Newsletter for Summer 2000 (v 14, no 3) says "a great deal of genealogical data on the ancestors and descendants of Alcha (Crandall) Sisson is available. We have added this data to our collection, but we do not intend to publish the large volume of information in the Newsletter. For those interested in this family, we recommend that they review the book "Samual Gorton of Rhode Island and His Descendants," Thomas Arthur Gorton, Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore MD, 1985. 337. Arnold SISSON-126 (Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born in 1770 in Livonia, Livingston Co., New York. He died in 1852 in Leroy, Genesee Co., New York.

In 1818 Arnold Sisson sold a 42.5 acre farm to Aaron Sisson and moved to Genesee County, NY, and perhaps then on to Ohio. In 1820 Arnold lived in Unadilla with his wife, one son and two daughters. Arnold died in 1852 in LeRoy or Pavilion, NY. It is possible that Arnold and Lucy (Wyland) Sisson had three children: Isaac T. born in 1795, a daughter who died in 1799, and Mary who married a Mr. West, all born in Livonia, Livingston County, New York.  It is also possible that these three are the children of Arnold's second wife Prudence Wyborn by a previous marriage.  Arnold's three certain children were borne to him by Prudence. Arnold Sisson may have died in Leroy, Genesee County, NY. Arnold married (MRIN:115) Lucy WYLAND-125 about 1794 in New York State. Lucy was born in 1780 in Rensselaer Co., New York.

Lucy's name may have been Wybourn.

Arnold also married ( 2:MRIN:116) Prudence WYBORN-1959, daughter of Isaac WYBORN-12704 and Anna WHIPPLE-12705 (MRIN:1147), about 1805 in New York State. Prudence was born in 1770 in DeWitt, Onondaga Co., New York.

339. Oliver SISSON-423 (William , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 30 Mar 1738 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. He died in 1809 in Cogswell Homestd, Tuscarora Co., Pennsylvania.

Oliver Sisson was probably the first permanent settler in Tuscarora County, Pennsylvania, in 1805.  He lived at the foot of Sisson Hill on the Cogswell homestead.  On his death he left everything to his wife Mary (Park) Sisson who soon sold to Elisha and Julius Cogswell. 340. Nathan SISSON-424 (William , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 14 Apr 1740 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. He died on 13 Apr 1814 in Wilbraham, Hampden Co., Massachusetts.

Nathan Sisson was a sergeant in 1762 in Capt. Russell's Rhode Island Company in an expedition against Havanna under Admiral Pococke and Lord Albemarle; he served in Ticonderoga and was imprisoned on a ship in New York, all no doubt during the French and Indian War. The 1790 census shows him in the town of Wilbraham, Hampton County, Massachusetts, with 1 male over 16, 3 males under 16, and 5 females over sixteen. At some time between 1790 and about 1810 Nathan Sisson lived in Barre, Vermont. He was a freewill preacher and farmer. Both Nathan and his wife Hannah (Burdick) Sisson died in Wilbraham, Mass., in 1814, within four days of each other. They are buried in the same grave. Nathan and Hannah are mentioned in the Elisha and Elizabeth [Chappel] Sisson family Bible (later added to by their son Judge William Sisson of Lyons, New York, and some of his descendants).

342. William SISSON Jr.-426 (William , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 12 Jul 1744 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. He died on 15 Oct 1798 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. He was buried in Great Plains Cemetery #57, North Stonington, CT.

William Sisson, Jr., served as a private in 1781 in Canfield's Militia Regular under Commander Amos Maine in defense of the Hudson. He is listed in the DAR Patriot Index. William married (MRIN:331) Mercy NOYES-465, daughter of John NOYES-13228 and Mercy BREED-12777 (MRIN:363), on 10 Apr 1766 in Congregational, Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Mercy was born on 7 Jan 1748 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. She died on 8 Dec 1824.

The Sisson Newsletter, v 10 #3 p 23 says "On reviewing the book "History of the Town of Stonington, Connecticut, 1649-1900," by Richard Wheeler, 1966, Lawrence Verry, Mystic, Connecticut, we have found an error in [our] reporting for Mercy Noyes, wife of William Sisson [5], v 2 #3. She had been reported as the daughter of John and Mercy (Breed) Prentice, and widow of Noyes. The Stonington records state Mary or Marcy Noyes, daughter of John and Marcy or Mary (Breed) Noyes. Mary Breed's parents were John and Mary (Prentice) Breed.

Benajah married (MRIN:332) Elizabeth MAIN-466, daughter of Timothy MAIN-12708 and Elizabeth BROWN-12709 (MRIN:364), on 29 Mar 1770 in North Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Elizabeth was born on 2 Nov 1750 in North Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. She died in North Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut.

Elizabeth's family name is reported both as Main and Maine.

Benajah also married ( 2:MRIN:333) Thankful FULLER-467 on 20 Aug 1780 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Thankful was born about 1746 in Stafford, Tolland Co., Connecticut.

344. James SISSON-428 (William , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 25 Aug 1748 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. He died on 26 Oct 1827 in Manlius, Onondaga Co., New York.

James Sisson was a sea captain.  A James Sisson [the same?] of Poughkeepsie, New York, is named in a document of 1767 in the Dutchess County Clerk's Office. This James, son of William, is "probably" the James Sisson who was a judge in Syracuse, New York.

James married (MRIN:334) Hannah THOMPSON-468, daughter of Nathaniel THOMPSON-13420 and Elizabeth ELDREDGE-12620 (MRIN:365), on 26 Nov 1780. Hannah was born on 9 Sep 1758. She died on 28 Mar 1821 in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., New York.

345. Abigail SISSON-429 (William , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 24 Oct 1750 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. She died on 20 Mar 1828 in Rockland, Sullivan Co., New York.

Abigail Sisson and her husband Reuben Hudson lived in Swansea and Warren, RI.

Abigail married (MRIN:103) Levi KIMBALL-469, son of Jacob KIMBALL-12663 and Mary PARKE-12664 (MRIN:366), on 1 Dec 1768 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. Levi was born on 22 Apr 1745. He died on 27 Aug 1827 in Rockland, Sullivan Co., New York.

Levi Kimball was a farmer from Preston, New London County, CT.  Some records show his name as Levi Russell, in error.  They had at least one child, a descendant of whom is Lindsey S. Reeks, of Pleasant Hill, CA. SOURCE: Washington County, RI, Marriage Records. Another descendant is Gordon H. Marion . He says "my ancestor, Levi Kimball, in 1767 married Abigail Sissons [sic] in Preston, CT, moving to Roscoe, NY, in 1796."
