Marriage Notes:

Account of Minnie's wedding from a newspaper.  The bottom of the column has been torn off or obscured.  I have not located Pomona or Atti.  The last letters of each sentence on the right side are obscured and it is possible that the Atti is missing a letter.  There is a Pomeroy and an Attica, Iowa.
Mr. Shaw is Arlland Shaw the husband of Nellie Sisson.  In the 1900 census they are noted as living in Grant Twp, Page Cty, Iowa near the city of Shenandoah.   Note: the typesetter consistently misspelled Sisson.
Stevenson-Sissen
The editor and wife attended a very plesant wedding near Atti yesterday at 3:30 p.m.  The contracting parties were N.A. Stevenson and Miss Minnie Sissen.  Mr. Stevenson is a business man ?? Pomona, this county, and ?? most excellent and cultured gentelman.  The bride is a handsome educated and refined lady.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. J.J. The wedding was at the residence of Mr. Shaw whose wife is a sister to the bride.

Married, Sisson-Gough
Mr. Charles Sisson, a well known farmer of Felix township, and Miss Dora Gough, also of Felix, were married Monday Feb. 16, and Eldora.  The ceremony was performed at the home of the pastor of the Christian church and was private.
Both the bride and groom enjoy the love and respect of a large circle of friends who wish them abundant success and a long and happy married life. They will make their home on the farm of the groom.  Mr. and Mrs. Theo Kruger, who have been living on the farm will move to Minnesota the first of March.

+ 7006 F i Living-13691.

4660. Laura Emma SISSON-6918 (James Samuel , Daniel , Nathaniel , William , Jonathan , James , Richard ) was born on 27 Feb 1874 in Felix Twp, Grundy Co., Iowa. She died on 20 Nov 1961 in Minneapolis, Hennipin Co., Minnesota.

According to Everett Rorer, Laura's son who, should know, Laura and her sisters were given their dowry in cash, while their brothers got land.   James Samuel Sisson had homesteaded an entire section of land in Grundy County, Iowa and this was divided between them.
Laura and Clinton went to South Dakota, where Clint was stationmaster and telegraph agent at a small railroad station.  Laura used her dowry money to purchase land in South Dakota which she rented to a tenant to farm on shares.  However, all she ever received from her tenant were letters saying that the crops had failed again and he had no money to send her.  Eventually she lost the land when they were unable to keep up the mortgage.
At some point, when Lillian was still an infant, they had to leave South Dakota.  Laura took the three children to Nicollet, Minnesota, where they lived with her brother Albert for a while.  Dad remembers traveling on the train for a long time, then getting off in the middle of the night.  Laura carried Lillian, who was an infant.  Dad and his brother Chester were wearing sailor suits and their mother held onto their collars to keep them all together.
After they arrived at Alberts, Laura discovered that his farm was out in the middle of nowhere and there were no stores nearby.  She had no food for the children and of course no transportation!  He had no house either, instead he had fixed up living quarters in part of the barn.
Somehow they survived and eventually joined Clinton in Minneapolis.  There Clinton tried his hand at selling Fuller Brushes but apparently did not do very well.  Eventually he joined Western Union and at his death was in charge of the Multiplex machines. He died just days before his retirement was to go into effect on his 65th birthday.

Laura married (MRIN:3195) Clinton DeWitte RORER-13294, son of Leonard George RORER-14202 and Lizzie Marie GLEASON-14310 (MRIN:5305), on 4 Jan 1905 in Conrad, Iowa. Clinton was born on 29 Aug 1877 in Clifton Co., Illinois. He died in Mar 1943 in Minneapolis, Hennipin Co., Minnesota. He was buried in Minneapolis, Hennipin Co., Minnesota.

Clinton DeWitte Rorer learned telegraphy under Edmund Sill, and worked as agent at Danforth and Clifton, Illinois; later going to California, Montana, North Dakota and Iowa.  In Iowa he met and married Laura Emma Sisson.  Later he made his home in Minneapolis, working as telegrapher for Western Union where he was placed in charge of the Multiplex Machines.  He has three children; Everett Eugene, Chester and Lillion all of whom graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis.

Marriage Notes:

Account of the wedding from the Record, the local newspaper in Conrad, Iowa.
Married,  Rorer-Sisson
At the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Elmina W. Sisson, on Wednesday evening, January 4, at 7:30, in the presence of about thirty relatives and intimate friends occurred the marriage of Miss Laura Emma Sisson to Clinton DeWitt Rorer, of Fargo, N.D.  Rev. Charles A Parkin, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church preforming the ceremony.
Promptly at the time appointed and to the strains of the wedding march, played by Mrs. C. A. Parkin, the bride and groom, preceeded by the minister, entered the parlor and took their positions in a beautifully arranged wedding bower and there spoke the solom vows that made them man and wife.  After the ceremony and congratulations a dainty three course luncheon was served by Misses Mattie Diehl, Bertha Sisson, Stella Pond and Lucy Williamson.
The house decorations were made up of a pretty combination of potted ferns, simlax and holly.
The bride wore a handsome gown of cream brillintine trimmed in white silk and lace and carried bride's roses.  The groom was clad in the conventional black.

Charles Wesley Durland was "of Nicollette, Minn." when he married Clara Nellie Sisson. The 1900 federal census page for Grundy County, Felix township shows Durland, Charley, Servant, White, Male, born 23 Feb 1877, single, born in Iowa, father born in Iowa, no listing for birthplace of mother, occupation farm laborer, able to read, write and speak English. He is listed directly under the Sisson family and according to Marie Rorer, Charlie was the Sisson's hired man.

Marriage Notes:

Account of the wedding of Clara Nellie Sisson and Charles Durland from the record, the local newspaper in Conrad, Iowa.  Note that the typesetter consistently misspelled Durland.  It also seems that Clara Nellie Sisson went by Nellie instead of Clara, which has caused her to sometimes be confused with her sister Nettie Eleanor Sisson.  Minnie Stevenson is her sister Minnie Sisson.  Ivester is a rural church and cemetery located approx 4 miles east of Eldora and North of Whitten in Iowa.
Darling-Sisson
At the home of the bride on Wednesday evening, March 9th, promptly at 7:30 p.m. to the strains of the wedding march played by Laura Sisson, Miss Nellie Sisson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Sisson, was united in marriage to Charles W. Darling.
