The 1920 Vinton County, Ohio, federal census for Know Township, SD 10, ED 152, page 72b, sheet 2b, dwelling 45, family 47, lines 93-97, conducted on January 28, 1920, FHL microfilm 1821446, shows that Mattie L. Tewksbury is the wife of Lourig Tewksbury, who is listed as head of household. Mattie is female, white, age 53, and born in Ohio, as were both of her parents. She can read and write. "Meigs County, Ohio, History Book" c1987 by the Meigs County Pioneer and Historical Society, v 2, page 322, FHL 997.199 H2m, says "Martha 'Mattie' Sisson was born 11/2/1866 and died 1/7/1947. She was the wife of Loring Tewksbury." "Some Tombstone Inscriptions of Southwest Athens County, Ohio: Alexander-Union and Cumberland Cemeteries,: v 5, c1986 by Alexander Local Genealogical and Historical Society, compiled by Mary L. Bowman, FHL 977.197 V3b V5, says "Martha L. Tewksbury b 1866 d 1947 (wife of L.A.Tewksbury, buried 1/9. She was buried in Alexander Township, Athens County, Ohio. Margaret Barrett , Natalie Cottrill and Roger Oxley say that Martha never married a Parker, although a Sid Parker did marry *a* Sisson, not Martha. I am retaining the erroneous marriage and warning researchers to doubt its existence.

3582. William Benjamin SISSON [scrapbook]-5936 (John Crandall , Benjamin , John , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born in Dec 1839 in Mt. Pleasant, Switzerland Co., Indiana. He died on 28 Feb 1909 in Randolph Co., Arkansas. He was buried on 2 Mar 1909 in Sanders Cem, Walnut Ridge, Randolph Co., Arkansas.

William Benjamin Sisson served as a private in the Civil War and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in the 38th Indiana Volunteers, Co. E. He received a pension for his service. He suffered a gunshot wound in the heel on May 11, 1864, in action at Buzzard Roost Gap, Georgia. He died on Feb. 28, 1909. After his death, his wife received a widow's pension. He was a teacher and a farmer. He is buried in Sanders Cemetery, in Randolph County, Arkansas, near the area where they owned 80 acres of bottomland. The cemetery is just north of the Lawrence County line. It is about one mile north of the county line and about one and a half miles west of highway 67. William married (MRIN:2801) Sarepta Ann ROBERSON "Annie S."-7656, daughter of William ROBERSON-13930 and Sarah KINTNER-13931 (MRIN:3475), on 25 Feb 1866 in Grantsburg, Crawford Co., Indiana. Annie S. was born on 24 Jul 1846 in Grantsburg, Crawford Co., Indiana. She died on 7 Jan 1921 in Randolph Co., Arkansas. She was buried in Sanders Cemetery.

Sarepta was called "Annie S. Sisson" in the 1900 Randolph County, Arkansas, census [maybe the census taker couldn't spell Sarepta?]. The name "Sarepta" comes from the Bible, from Luke 4:26, King James version. Sarepta is the Greek form of the name of the town Zarephath, where the prophet Elijah resided during a famine in Old Testament times (see 1 Kings 17).

"J.N. Sisson of Little Rock" survived his mother who died in 1921.

Isaac's WWI draft registration is indexed as "Isacc N. Sisson". He is listed as resident of an "Insane Hospital." He was recorded as short and stout, with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

Isaac's niece Laura reported that Isaac was very smart, but that he fell on the ice when he was 19 or 20 and was never the same after that. He is listed in the census in Pulaski County, AR, in 1910, 1920, and 1930, as an inmate at the state hospital. (Thanks to Larry Sisson for story from Laura.)

Both Sarah E. and Margaret Jane Sisson married Ed Brantley. Margaret raised twelve children; we do not know which are Sarah's and which are Margaret's by her first and second husbands.

Zachary was a Civil War soldier. He went to Texas where he raised cattle. Zachary's second wife Sarah Henrietta Irene (Middleton) Montgomery, daughter of Renjamin Thomas and Rachel (Pettijohn) Middleton and widow of Samuel Wells Montgomery, brought three children to their marriage: Ennis Wells; Lillian Ione; and Sammie Irene Montgomery.

David enlisted at age 15 and served six months in the Civil War, Co. E, 146 Reg. Indiana Volunteers. He was a teacher and mail carrier in Deckard Station, Indiana. and Eliza Oatman were divorced in April or May 1871. She married second Perry Oak. David and Lizzie Farnum had twelve children, two of them born between Sivert and Lula. Their daughters L.N. and Lulu E. have been confused. The "Hinckle Genealogy" page 1026 reports that Lela Bernice Todd, born August 5, 1906, in Deckler, Indiana, daughter of Charles and Lulu (Sisson) Todd married John Edward Hinckle. Therefore we feel that David and Lizzie's first daughter should be "Lulu N." and their twelfth child should be "L.E." Another sources: family data from Maryellen (Sisson) Leachman, Balboa, CA, and Tim Sisson's "spiral chart" originally constructed by Henrietta Sisson, sister of Sivert Ulness Sisson. David is buried in Fairview Cemetery.
