3408. Lucinda SISSON-5631 (Henry , Giles , John , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 20 Mar 1820 in Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Ohio. She died on 3 Sep 1894 in St Louis, St Louis Co., Missouri.

Lucinda and Noah lived in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1841 to 1849. Noah did a good business as a builder. In 1849 they bought a farm of about 100 acres in Switzerland County, Indiana, about a mile south of Patriot, and there "the unusual love of nature and the ability of Noah as a farmer were shown in his success if beautifying the place and making his farm pay well." He built a comfortable home in which Laura, Ellen and Emma were born. Noah sold the farm in 1857 and moved to Iowa with his daughter Mary Eliza and her new husband Horace Sisson. The proceeds of the sale of the farm were invested in a prairie farm near Fairfield, Iowa, and they lived there for a few months, until Horace and Mary Eliza moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, and Noah bought Horace's home in Fairfield, where he and Lucinda lived until September 1860 when they moved to St Louis, Missouri.

Lucinda married (MRIN:2658) Noah DEAN Jr.-5632, son of Noah DEAN-12356 and Roxellanna HASKELL-12354 (MRIN:2659), on 6 Jul 1841 in Brook Street Methodist Church, Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky. Noah was born on 5 Jul 1816 in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. He died on 7 Aug 1896 in St Louis, St Louis Co., Missouri.

Noah Dean was born in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, part of the older town of Rochester. He and Lucinda were married by the pastor, Mr. Holman, of the Brook Street Methodist Church, Louisville, Kentucky. He was appointed as acting carpenter (warrant officer) 6 December 1862, and was honorably discharged 18 December 1865. His military service was in the Mississippi (river) Squadron of the U.S. Navy, under Rear Admiral Daniel D. Porter. He built a dummy iron-clad ship during the battle at Vicksburg, Mississippi, which caused the Confederates to destroy the USS Indianola, which they had captured and were repairing. The USS Rattler attempted to run past Fort Hindman at Arkansas Post to provide enfilade support, but was caught on a snag placed in the river by the Confederates. Family lore says that Noah received a commendation from the Secretary of the Navy for jumping overboard, during a combat operation, and removing debris which was preventing the paddle-wheel of his ship from moving. According to her nephew Charles A. Dean, Louise Dean White "insisted upon being called Louie. Her husband, Charles F. White was a man whose career was in railroad engineering, in the USA and in England. Louie travelled at little or no cost all around the US as well as England. She researched the Dean genealogy. In 1903 she wrote it longhand, and made four longhand copies for her sisters."

3409. Horace Birdsall SISSON-5647 (Henry , Giles , John , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 27 Aug 1821 in Chase Hills, , Ohio. He died on 16 Aug 1893 in Ottumwa, Wapello Co., Iowa.

Horace lived with his sister Lucinda Sisson Dean and her husband Noah Dean for a time, as did Bell Clark, Lucinda's and Horace's half sister. Horace later built house on the Dean farm where Bell Clark and her husband and two children, Belle and Richard, lived. In 1854 Horace went to Fairfield, Iowa, to make his home and to practice dentistry.

Horace married (MRIN:2667) Margaret RIDER-7422 on 15 Oct 1854 in Fairfield, Jefferson Co., Iowa. Margaret was born on 20 Oct 1832 in Brownsville, Union Co., Indiana. She died on 19 Dec 1907.

3413. Giles S. CASE-923 (Chloe Mariah SISSON , Giles , John , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born on 30 May 1825 in Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Ohio. He died on 27 Dec 1848 in Addison, Ohio.

Giles Case drowned in the Ohio River. According to family lore, he was a ferryman. On a cold and stormy night, a stranger came to the door and wanted to be taken across the river. Clarissa didn't want him to go, but he reassured her that all would be well, and gave her a gold piece for "good luck" (coin is still in the family). He never returned. Nine or ten weeks later, his body was found washed up on the island near Gallipolis - no boat, and no body of the stranger.
