Notes

2. Sally OR Sarah PERRY

Sally or Sarah PERRYwas probably named after Capt. David Perry's mother Sarah [Joy] Perry.
!Other AF# 4W5S-CP

Sources: see father, Capt. David Perry.

FamilySearch computer data incorrectly stated that Captain David Perry's daughter Sally or Sarah Perry was christened 30 Jun 1776, "of Newton, Bath, Somerset, England"; this was the result of an error in the data system's automatic match-merge. It is impossible that Captain David Perry's daughter, Sally or Sarah Perry, could have been the person (probably infant) by that name so christened because:
    (1) Captain David Perry's daughter Sally or Sarah Perry was nearly 12 years old, born 20 Oct 1764 in Killingly, Connecticut; her mother was about to give birth for the sixth time. Sally or Sarah Perry is accounted for, as well as all Captain David Perry's children up to that time, in his memoir.
    (2) Captain David Perry was poor and could not afford a trip to England and back; and
    (3) Captain, then-Lieutenant, David Perry was an American patriot involved in the Revolutionary War since its outbreak in 1775, and was considered a traitor to England; in 1776 he was receiving pressure by Col. John Durkee to take a captain's commission in his regiment for a year (the 1776 March-November campaign), but he felt a captain should have nothing to hold him back, whereas David Perry had a wife and children to support, or to leave with means of support, if he were killed, so he declined; he served instead as a 1st Lieutenant in the Connecticut Militia in the winter of 1776-1777.     See: 1) Recollections of An Old Soldier, the memoir of Capt. David Perry, her father, particularly Chapter VII: The Seige of Quebec

2) a Mrs. Sally Bingham Album 1834 is reproduced in part by photocopy in "The Descendants of Erastus Bingham and Lucinda Gates" pub by the Bingham Family Corp, Ogden, UT, 1970. Original in possession of Thomas S. Bingham, Ogden, UT (as of 1970--unable to locte it 1985; but since have learned a microfilmed copy may be in the LDS Church Administration Bldg.). States it was begun in 1834--when finished? But Sally Perry Bingham is shown as having died in 1831, or is this death date listed in AF inacurate?. Though the Bingham Desc. states it was for his mother Sally Bingham, could it have been for Mrs. Sally (Gates) Bingham (wife of Erastus' brother Willard) who died in Kirtland, Ohio in 1835? Or was his mother's death not yet known to him? (Find Neil D. Bingham, who wrote the history of Erastus Perry Bingham, p 1-7.)

3) one source says death was 17 Feb 1831, but this may have been a document date or a settlement of her estate. Around this time, son Erastus took over the care of his mother and after that, the Willey family did (Mary/Polly [Bingham] Willey, Erastus' youngest sister). Sarah/Sally [Perry] Bingham prob. died about 1844. Source: Richard C. Bingham, of Centerville, UT, personal research, 1998.

and 1806 gives 1796.
