| Neeltje Graauw was born on 9 April 1881 in Strijen, province of Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands, as the fifth child and a daughter of Pieter Cornelisz. Graauw and Teuntje Bezemer, who had 16 children in total, only four of these reached the age of adulthood. | Neeltje Graauw is geboren op 9 April 1881 in Strijen, provincie Zuid-Holland, en was het vijfde kind en een dochter van Pieter Cornelisz. | We only know that Neeltje Graauw died on board the S.S. Volturno on its fateful journey across the Atlantic Ocean (9 October 1913) and was ex officio pronounced dead on 5 June 1914 by the registrars office of Rotterdam. Her father received Neeltjes ship-trunk at some point in time, but we do not know the exact date and this trunk was handed down to familymembers, but at some point in the 1960's thrown away! |
Wij weten alleen met zekerheid dat Neeltje Graauw aan boord was van de S.S. Volturno tijdens die rampzalige reis op de Atlantische Oceaan (9 oktober 1913) en dat zij op 5 juni 1914 ambtshalve is afgevoerd uit de Burgerlijke Stand te Rotterdam. Op een gegeven moment heeft de vader van Neeltje haar scheepskist ontvangen en die scheepskist is tot ergens in de jaren 1960 bij familieleden in huis geweest en toen als oud vuilnis weggedaan! |
