To all to whom these presents shall come - Greeting. Know ye, that in consideration of an entry made in the entry taker's office of Campbell County of no. 1000 dated the 23rd day of August 1837 by Davis Hatfield, there is granted by the State of Tennessee unto the said Davis Hatfield and his heirs, a certain tract of land containing five thousand acres, lying in the county aforesaid, beginning at a stake & double chestnut oak in the northwest line of Jo. H. Delap's line. Then with said line south twenty five west ten poles to a stake and pointers, Delap's corner. South thirty east five hundred & sixty poles to a stake. South eighty three west one hundred and sixty poles to a stake. North twenty two west passing a poplar and a buckeye at 270 poles, corner of Isaac Bryant's survey, & with a line of the same, in all four hundred and fifty poles to two hickories, Jesse Bryant's corner, and with a line of his survey, seven east three hundred & twenty seven poles to a small birch and sourwood, Bryant's corner, at the Pilot Rocks. North twenty west three hundred & seven poles to a stake, Jesse Bryant's corner. North forty west eight hundred and twenty poles, crossing Stinking Creek to a stake on the Pine Mountains. North thirty one east six hundred & fifty six poles to a stake. South forty five east one hundred & thirty five poles to a stake. South twenty five west passing a stake and white oak pointer Jo. H. Delap's corner at 100 poles, and with his line, in all 950 poles to the beginning. Surveyed 2nd January 1838. With its appurtenances to have & to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances, to the said Davis Hatfield and his heirs forever. In witness whereof James K. Polk Governor of the State of Tennessee has hereunto set his hand and [raised] the great seal of the State to be affixed at Nashville on the 11th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred forty and of American Independence the sixty fifth.
