LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF RICHARD T. BARTLETT

I, Richard T. BARTLETT of the County of Henry and State of Kentucky do by these presents make and ordain this as my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows, to wit:

Item 1st. It is my will and desire that all my past debts and burial expenses be paid.

Item 2nd. It is my will and desire that my sisters Elizabeth and Rebecca have all of the Household and Kitchen furniture that belongs to me. It is also my will and desire that my said sisters Elizabeth and Rebecca have all my interest in the four following slaves viz; David, Jack, Amy and her son John until my son Richard arrives to the age of twenty-one years and then it is my will that my son Richard have my interest in said slaves, they having been willed by my deceased Father to my aforesaid sisters and my self.

Item 3rd, It is my will that my son Richard BARTLETT have all the rest of my estate for his own proper use and benefit and if he should die before he arrives at the age of twenty-one years or should die without heirs or will it is my will and desire that my two sisters Elizabeth and Rebecca, if they should be alive or either one of them who may be alive at the time of my said son's death have all of the estate by me willed to him. It is further my will and desire that my said sisters Elizabeth and Rebecca have the management and raising of my said son Richard BARTLETT. It is further my will and desire that my Executor pay out of the hire and profits of the slaves that go to my son Richard for my said son's schooling, clothing in any amount of money as to him my said Executor may seem just and right.

Item 4th. It is my will and desire that if my negro woman Nancy does not behave herself (as she is of a bad disposition) that my Executor sell her to the best advantage and appropriate the money to the use and benefit of my said son Richard.

Lastly I hereby appoint William SAMUEL Executor to this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other former wills by me made this 15th May 1854.
