THE WILL OF JOHN WILSON BARTLETT

John Wilson BARTLETT was born July 18, 1838 in Irving Township, Montgomery County, IL, the son of Samuel T. BARTLETT and Martha MAXEY. On September 3, 1857 he married Lydia Eleanor KELLY, the daughter of Silas Blackman KELLY and Mary "Polly" GRANTHAM. John and Lydia's only three children, William, Thomas and Silas, all died before reaching the age of four years. John was a Private in Company "H" of the 9th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War and was a member of the Irving Grand Army of the Republic in Montgomery County following the war. Lydia died Dec 24, 1903 and John died March 10, 1907. They are both buried in Irving Cemetery, along with their three children. [Sandra G. Taylor]

I, John Wilson BARTLETT, of Irving, Montgomery County, Ill. make this my last will. To Arthur H. BARTLETT, of Irving, Mont. Co. Ill., on account of the personal care and attention which he has rendered to me during xx (crossed out) my years of infirmity, last sickness and death I give, devise and bequeath the following described Real Estate to-wit: my hotel property situated on lots # (handwritten symbol indecipherable), 10&11, in Blk. #30, in the village of Irving, Ill.

After paying my debts and funeral expenses, I give, devise and bequeath all of the balance of my property both real and personal equally among the following persons to-wit: Chas. L. BARTLETT, and Henry J. BARTLETT both residing in Hillsboro, Ill. Hiram R. BARTLETT of Decatur, Ill., Samuel Douglass BARTLETT of Citronelle Ala. related to me as brothers, and Mary NICKEY of Springfield, Ill. related to me as sister, one share each.

I hereby revoke all wills by me heretofore made, and appoint as executor of my will Charles B. MCKINNEY of Irving, Ill.

In witness whereof, I, the above named testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of May A. D. 1907.

In Probate June Term A. D. 1907 personally appeared in open Court A. A. RHINEHART and Abner MOORE Subscribing witnesses to the annexed instrument of writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of John Wilson BARTLETT late of said County deceased, who being duly sworn according to law, do depose and say each for himself that they were present and saw the said John Wilson BARTLETT sign said will in their presence and that they believe that the said testator was of sound Mind and Memory of lawful age and under no constraint when he signed said will.
