OBITUARY OF
MARTHA (MAXEY) BARTLETT
1819 - 1894
MARTHA MAXEY BARTLETT was born in Barron [sic] county Kentucky Dec. 10th 1819 and moved with her fathers family to Montgomery county Ills. in Nov. 1835. She was married to the late S. T. BARTLETT Oct. 2nd 1836. Departed this life at her residence in Irving at 10 a. m. Jan. 20th 1894 aged 74 years 1 month and 10 days.
Sister BARTLETT was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Irving and has been a devoted Christian and faithful member in communion with Gods people from early life down to old age and enabled by the Divine Presence to rejoice in the peace and triumph of the Christian faith in the hour of death. She was conscious and gave her parting blessings to her children as she bade them a final earthly farewell. Mrs. BARTLETT was known for generous hospitality as well as her Christian fidelity, for these long years her house has been a home to the faithful servants of God and to the needy, the orphans. Many today, and will doubtless in eternity, remember her for the good she has done. She goes to meet part of the family who have gone before, soon the remainder, with her many friends may by Gods grace meet her in the morning. Such worthy citizens and faithful mothers deserve our highest respect in life and even in death more than ordinary notice. Let us take the repeated calls of mortality as calls of mercy and prepare to meet God.
