MRS. H. J. BARTLETT DEAD
________Mrs. Lucy Thornton BARTLETT, wife of Henry J. BARTLETT, a prominent business man of Hillsboro, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. D. TENNYSON in Litchfield, at 7:30 a.m. on Monday of this week, November 22d, aged 68 years, 7 months and 19 days.
The deceased was born at Horse Cave, Ky., April 3, 1852, and grew to womanhood there. On April 25th, 1872, she was united in marriage with H. J. BARTLETT, who was then a resident of Irving. She was visiting her sister, Mrs. DETHERIDGE, wife of a Presbyterian minister, then located at Irving, and met Mr. BARTLETT. The two were united in marriage at the home of her sister in Irving, her brother-in-law performing the ceremony.
Three children were born to Mr. And Mrs. BARTLETT, two of whom died in infancy and one survived, Mrs. D. D. TENNYSON, of Litchfield, at whose home Mrs. BARTLETT has been staying since she was stricken with cancer of the liver, which resulted in her death. The many friends of Mrs. BARTLETT knew there was no hope for her recovery, but none of them were prepared for the news of her death Monday.
Mrs. BARTLETT came to Hillsboro with her husband in 1898, when he came here to establish a poultry house. She was a very charming woman in every way and she became at once identified with the most prominent society leaders of Hillsboro and was a member of the Ladies Reading Circle, the oldest organization of this character in Hillsboro.
Mrs. BARTLETT leaves besides her husband and daughter, the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Laura CAMPBELL of Buffalo, Ky.; Henry and E. S. RICHARDSON of Kentucky; Mrs. Mary E. DETHERAGE [sic] of Indiana; and Isham RICHARDSON of Dallas, Texas.
Mrs. BARTLETT was one of those quiet, retiring ladies who made warm friends with everyone and her death was a shock to her hundreds of friends here. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge and of the Presbyterian church and always took an active interest in these organizations.
The funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church in Hillsboro on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 24, at 2 oclock, Rev. J. B. SAGER officiating.
[Note: Lucy T. RICHARDSON was the daughter of Isham RICHARDSON and Lucy THORNTON who died and are buried in Hart Co., KY. ]
