Giles Underhill, Neighbor of Jonas Crossland,
Land Patent, February 1720, Surry County

George, To All, Know Ye that for divers good cause and consideration but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of ten shillings of good and lawful money for our --- paid to our --- of our --- in this our Colony & Dominion of Virginia as --- for and in consideration of the Importation of one person to dwell within this our said Colony & Dominion whose name is Thomas Dun We Have given granted & confirmed and by these presents for --- our heirs & successors do give grant and confirm unto Giles Underhill of Surry County a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and thirty three acres lying & being on the South side of the main Blackwater Swamp in the said County of Surry and bounded as followeth, to wit Beginning at a hickory a corner tree of Colledge Land on Josephs Swamp by the Colledge --- east one hundred and two poles to a white oak and South sixty six poles to a red oak then east ninety poles to a black oak then North one hundred forty six poles to a drooping black oak and west one hundred & niney two poles to a red oak a line --- of the Colledge land aforesaid and by the Colledge land South eighty poles to the beginning --- Alexander Spotwood our Lt Govenor at Williams burgh under the Seal of our said Colony this Twenty first day of February one thousand seven hundred and twenty in the sixth year of our Reign.

George, To All, Know Ye that for divers good cause and consideration but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen shillings of good and lawful money for our _ paid to our _ General of our _ our Colony and Dominion of Virginia, We Have given granted and confirmed and by these presents for _ our heirs and successors do give grant and confirm unto Edward Crosland of Prince George County one certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and forty nine acres lying and being on the south side of white Oak Swamp in the county of Prince George aforesaid and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at corner _ on the water course of the said swamp _ Mr John Fitzgerrald to lower corner Thence South twenty degrees East one hundred and sixty rods to a corner between several trees _ _ thence east twenty four degrees North one hundred fifty poles to a corner between several trees choped towards _ North twenty degrees West one hundred and fifty seven poles to a corner _ the run thence up the run of the said swamp _ meanders to the beginning _ _ to have hold _ _ _ and paying provided _ _ witness our trust and _ Robert Carter Esq President of our Council and Commander in Chief of our said Colony and Dominion at Williamsburgh under this seal of our said Colony this sixteenth day of June One Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty Seven in this Thirteenth year of our Reign.

Land Sale, May 1788, Southampton County

This Indenture made this 13th day of May 1788 between John Crosling & Mary his wife of Southampton County Virginia of the one part and Elisha Darden of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Crosling for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty Six Pounds and Seventeen Sh's Current money of Virg' to him in hand paid by the said Elisha Darden on or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge he the sd John Crosling hath granted bargained sold aliened & confirmed & these presents doth grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said Elisha Darden & his heirs & assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres more or less lying & being in the County of So'ton aforesaid & bounded as followeth to wit beginning at a white oak standing on the side of the flat Branch thence running a line of marked trees Eastwardly to a pine a corner tree standing in Matthew Jones's line thence running the sd Jones line Northeastwardly to a red oak a corner tree thence along a line of marked trees to the run of the Cyprus Swamp thence up the run to a sweet gum a corner tree in Joshua Gardners line thence running Westardly the sd Gardners line to a pine a corner tree thence a line of marked trees to the flat branch thence down the sd branch to the first station and also the reversion & reversions remainder and remainders rents issues & profits & also all the estate rights title Interest & claim & demand whatsoever of the said John Crosling of in & to the sd land and _ & every part thereof to have and to hold all & singular the said land above mentioned & every part and parcel thereof with the appertaining unto him the said Elisha Darden his heirs & assigns forever & the said John Crosling for himself his heirs executors or administrators the said land and premises and every part thereof warrant and forever defend against the lawful claim or claims of any & every person or persons whatsoever by these presents. This Indenture made this 30th day of Dec in the year of our Lord 1793 between Jn Croslin Sen & his wife Mary of S'ton County & State of Virg of the first part & Jn Birdsong of the County & State aforesaid of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said Jn Croslin Sen & Mary his wife for & in consideration of the sum of £ 35 good & lawful money of Virg to them in hand before the unsealing & delivery of these presents to the receipt of which they the said Jn Croslin Sen & Mary his wife do hereby acknowledge & themselves therewith fully & _ satisfied have granted bargained sold _ _ & confirmed & by these presents do grant bargain sell _ _ and forever confirm unto him the said John Birdsong his heirs & assigns a tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in S'ton County on the West side of the Cyprus Swamp & on the East side of the Nottoway River bounded by Edward Croslin line on the Southeast side & _ Williams line on the West side & thence around the other part by Jn Croslin Sen his line containing by estimation 50 acres _ _ more or less to have & to hold the said bargained premises with the appurtenances unto him the said Jn Birdsong his heirs & assigns forever together with all houses out houses woods & underwoods water & water course ways _ & _ & all other profits & commodities to the said tract belonging or in any way appertaining & the said Jn Croslin & Mary his wife for themselves their heirs liens & admins do covenant promise grant & agree to & with the Jn Birdsong his heirs & assigns forever in manner & form following that is to say that they the said Jn Croslin & Mary his wife _ the unsealing & delivery of these presents _ & stand lawfully _ _ _ of the bargained premises in a good _ & indefeatable estate in fee simple & the said tract or parcel aforesaid is fully freely & clearly acquitted & discharged from all former gifts grants bargains sale _ _ _ & _ of _ _ _ _ whatsoever & _ the said bargained premises _ the _ _ the said Jn Birdsong his heirs & assigns forever.  They the said Jn Croslin & Mary his wife their heirs liens & admins will warrant & forever defend by these presents against the lawful claim or claims of all & every person or persons whatsoever.  In Witness whereof they the said Jn Croslin & Mary his wife hereunto set their hands & affix their seals this day & year above written.

This Indenture made this 18th day of July in the year of our Lord 1795 Between Tho' Edwards of Southampton County & State of Virginia of the one part & John Croslin Sen of the county & state aforesaid of the other part Witneseth that the said Tho' Edwards for and in consideration of the sum of �32 10 sh current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said John Croslin before the insealing & delivery of these presents the receipt thereof the said Thomas Edwards doth hereby acknowledge & _ therewith fully paid satisfied & contented he the said Thomas Edwards hath granted bargained sold aliened _ & confirmed & by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien _ unto the said John Croslin his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land being in Southampton county near & on the North side of Nottoway River bound by John Lees, Howell Hind's, Lawrence Carr's & John Gardner's land containing by estimation 130 acres _ the same _ or _ together with all houses out houses woods ways _ minerals _ the _ the _ belonging with the _ & _ & _ of said bargained premises & every part & parcel thereof & also all the _ & _ whatsoever of him the said Thomas Edwards _ & the said land and premises & every part & parcel thereof to have and to hold all & singular the said land above mentioned & every part & parcel thereof with all the appurtenances unto the said John Croslin Sen his heirs & assigns forever and the said Tho' Edwards his heirs & the said land & premises & every part & parcel thereof doth warrant & forever defend against the lawful right title claim or demand of all & every person or persons whatsoever or whomsoever unto the said John Croslin Sen his heirs & assigns forever In Witness thereof I the said Thomas Edwards have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this day & date above written.
