State of South Carolina - - - This Indenture made the 29th day of May,
in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight,
Between Samuel Crosslin, of the county of Fairfield, within said state of
the one part, and David Evans, of the same county, and state, gent. of
the other part - - - Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the
sum of five shillings current money of the said state to him in hand paid
well and truly paid by the said David Evans at or before the sealing and
delivery hereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath regained
and sold, and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the D. R.
Evans, Executor, Administrator and assigns, a certain tract of land
containing two hundred acres, situated, lying and being on the South side
of the Saluda River, bounding on the North Side said River, all other
sides by vacant land, having such form and shades and shape, as a Plat
thereof here unto annexed, reference being there unto had with more fully
and at large appear, granted to Samuel Crosslin the twenty first day of
January one thousand seven hundred and eighty-five, by his excellency
William Moutrie, governor and commander in chief in and over the state a
foresaid - - together with all and singular the gardens, orchards,
fences, ways, wells, waters, water courses, easements, profits,
commodities, advantages, emoluments, hereditaments and appurtenances
whatsoever to the said tract of land - belonging, or in any wise
appertaining, and the revesion and revesions, remainder and remainders,
rents, and every part and parcel thereof - - - To have and to hold the
said tract of land containing two hundred acres, and all and singular
other the premises herein before mentioned and intended to be bargained
and sold, and every part and parcel thereof, with their and every of
their appurtenances, unto the said David Read Evans, his executors,
Administration, and Assigns, from the day next before the day of the date
of these present for and during the full times ad unto the full end and
term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be completed
and ended - - yielding and paying therefore unto the said Samuel
Crosslin, his executors or Administrators, the Rent of one Ear of Indian
Corn on the last day of the said Term, if the same shall be lawfully
demanded - - To the intent and purpose that the said David Read Evans by
Virtue hereof and by force of the statute for transferring of uses into
possession, may be in the actual possession of the premises herein before
mentioned and intended to be hereby bargained and sold and every part and
parcel, with their and every of their appurtenance, and may be hereby
enabled to accept and take a grant and release of the revesion and
inheritance of the same to him and his heirs for ever. The witness
whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably
set their hands and seal the day and year first above written.

State of South Carolina - - - This Indenture made the thirtieth day of
May, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight,
and the thirteenth of American Independence, Between Samuel Crosslin,
Planter, of the one Part, and David Read Evans, of the other Part.
Witnesseth, That he the said Samuel Crosslin, for the consideration of
the sum of Five Pounds in rent money, have granted, bargained, sold,
aliened released and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant,
bargain, sell, alien, release, and confirm, unto the said David Read
Evans, in his actual possession now being by Virtue of a Bargain and Sale
to him thereof made for one whole year by and Indenture of Lease bearing
Date the Day next before the Day of the Date of these presents, and by
Force of the Statute for transferring of uses into actual possession, and
to his heirs and assigns for ever. All that Plantation or tract of land
containing two hundred acres, situated lying and being on the south side
of Saluda River, bounding on the North said River, all other sides by
vacant land, having such form, marks, and shapes, as a Plat there o here
unto annexed (Reference being there unto had will more fully appear)
granted to Samuel Crosslin the twenty-first Day of January, one thousand
seven hundred and eighty-five, by his excellency William Moutrie, Esq.
governor in and of the said state - - - Together with all and singular
the Rights, members and appurtenances whatsoever to the said Plantation
or Tract of Land belonging, or in anywise appertaining, and the Revesion
and revesions, remainder and remainders, rents, Issues, and profits
thereof, and also all the estate right, title, Interest, Possession,
Property, Profit, Claim and Demand what so ever, either in Law or Equity,
of the said Samuel Crosslin, of in, or to the said Plantation or Tract of
Land containing two hundred acres - - - To have and to hold the said
Plantation or Tract of Land, hereby granted and released, or meant or
intended to be hereby granted and released, with their and every of their
Appurtenances, unto the said David Read Evans, his Heirs and Assigns, for
ever - - - And the said Samuel Crosslin, his heirs and every of them, the
said Plantation or Tract of Land, with the Appurtenances unto the said
David Read Evans, his Heirs and Assigns for ever, and the said Samuel
Crosslin, in the said Plantation or Tract of Land unto said D. R. Evans,
and his Heirs and Assigns, against him the said Samuel Crosslin and his
Heirs, and every of them, and every other person or persons whatsoever
claiming or to claim by from or under him, them, or any of them, - shall
and will warrant and for ever defend by these presents - - - In Witness
whereas the said Samuel Crosslin hath hereunto set his hand and seal the
day and year first above written. Signed, Sealed, and delivered in the
Presence of D. Evans, Jno Winn, Junr.

Received the Day and Date first above written of the above named David
Read Evans, the sum of Five Pounds current money of South Carolina, it
being the full consideration Money above mentioned - say received by me,

State of South Carolina, Laurens County - - Memorandum, That on the Day
personally came and appeared John Winn, Junr. before me Jonathan Downs,
one of the Justices for said county, He who being duly sworn as the Law
directs, on his Oat Saith, That he did see Samuel Crosslin sign, seal,
and as his Act and Deed deliver the within release, with the Lease, to
and for the use and purposes therein mentioned, as so the receipt, and
further says, that he did see David Evans subscribe his name thereto as
Witness with himself, and further this Deponent sayeth not.
