In the case of Edwin Crosslin of Captain William Parsons Company, Virginia Militia.

Declaration and identification in due form, filed June 1, 1872

SERVICE FOR SIXTY DAYS SHOWS AS FOLLOWS:

Report from Third Auditor shows that Edwin Crosslyn served in Captain William Parsons Company of Virginia militia, from May 27 1814 to November 26 1814.

Length of service 184 days.

Claimant declares he is not a pensioner under any previous act. Name not on list of pensioners.

Oath to support the Constitution of the United States subscribed.

WAR OF 1812

CLAIM OF WIDOW FOR SERVICE PENSION

Under the provisions of Sections 4736 to 4740, inclusive, Revised Statutes, and the Act of March 9, 1878.

State of Arkansas  County of Clark, ss.

On the 31st day of July, A. D. one thousand eight hundred and 78, personally appeared before me, Clerk of Court, the same being a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, (1) Elizabeth Crosslin, aged 71 years, a resident of Dobyville, in the State of Arkansas, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of (2) Edwin Crosslin deceased, who was the identical (3) Edwin Crosslin, who served under the of (4) Edward Crosslin as a (5) private, in the Company commanded by Captain _____ in the regiment of Va Vols, commanded by _____ in the war of (6) 1812; that her said husband (7) volunteered at Va ... for the term of 6 months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of (8) Six months and whose services terminated, by reason of (9)an honorable discharge at Va... She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz (10) About 17 years old, a farmer, born in __ Co Va.  Was 6 feet & 2 inches high when grown, hair black, blue eyes, light complexion.  She further states that she was married to the said Edward Crosslin, at the city (or town) of Linden, in the county of Marengo, and in the State of Alabama, on the 19th day of Feb A.D. 1843 by one (11) Wm H Hatch J.P., who was a (12) Justice of the Peace; and that her name before her said marriage was Elizabeth Hall, and that she has not remarried since the death of said Edward Crosslin; and she further states that (13) said Edward Crosslin had been previously married to Susan Daughtry who died in Wilcox Co Ala in year 1841 and this affiant had been previously married to Leonard Hall who died 7th Oct 1842 in Marengo County, Alabama. and that her said husband (14) E. Crosslin, died at Dobyville, in the State of Arkansas on the 7 day of August A.D. 1875; and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army viz (15) Affiant first knew E Crosslin in Richmond Co Nc about year 1828.   He moved from there to Wilcox Co Ala about year 1838.  Affiant lived in Richmond from her birth until about year 1831, when she moved to Marengo Co Ala.   After her marriage with E Crosslin, she & he lived in Marengo Co Ala until Feby 1844 when they moved to Monroe Co Miss.  In Dec 1869 they moved to Clark Co Ark.  She makes this declaration for the purposes of obtaining the Pension to which may be entitled under Sections 4736 to 4740, inclusive, Revised Statues, and the Act of March 9, 1878, and hereby appoints, with full powers of substituting and revocation, McHill and Birch, of Washington D.C. her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim.
And she further declares ... (16) Her husband drew pension up to date of death on certificate No. 20785 and that her residence is near city (or town) of Dobyville County of Clark State of Arkansas, and that her post office address is Dobyville, Clark Co, Ark.

Also personally appeared John H Daniel, aged 59 years, residing near Dobyville Ark, and Thos J Logan, aged 32 years, residing near Dobyville, Clark Co, Ark, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say that they have known the said Elizabeth Crosslin for 25 years and for 8 years, respectively; that they were present and saw her sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and they further say that they are able to identify her as the person who was the wife of the identical (17) Edward Crosslin, who rendered the service alleged in the above application ... by the following named facts, viz: (18) by a personal acquaintance with Edward & Elizabeth Crosslin for last 25 years and for last 8 years, respectively. and they know that she has not remarried since the death of Edward Crosslin her husband, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

I Nancy Merritt do solemnly swear that I am acquainted with Mrs Elizabeth Crossland the widow of Edward Crossland, that I knew them both well for a number of years before they were married, that I was present and saw them married which marriage took place in the County of Marengo in the State of Alabama about thirty years ago - I cannot now recollect the exact date. I am sixty eight years of age and reside in the town of DeWitt in the County of Arkansas and State of Arkansas.
