In 1998, I started the HATHCOCK mailing list for researching the genealogy of the HATHOCK (all spellings) families. At that time, listowners were indeed listowners, in that we had to buy the lists in order to have them in operation. It cost me 200.00 a year and I was able to open several surname lists. Later, rootsweb joined Ancestry.com and listowners no longer had to pay yearly in order to have these lists in operation. At that time, and due to fighting on the list about race, I chose to hand the list over to another researcher as I no longer wished to be a part of what had become a not-so-nice place to attached to. Since then I have not seen many postings at all made to that list, and it breaks my heart. We are all family and should be treating one another with respect.
