HORRID MURDER
From  Aug 13, 1842 issue of Carolina Watchman (Salisbury newspaper): HORRID MURDER
One of the most attrocious and blood-thirsty deeds we have heard of this many a day, was committed in Cabarrus county, on Friday the 5th instant, on the body of Mr. James Russell, of Mecklenburg, by Mark Kisor, of the former county. It took place at the house of Mr. Allen Bosts. It appears that Kisor had an old grudge against Russell, but of which Russell was entirely ignorant. In the forenoon of Friday, Kisor was talking to some workmen at Bosts' about having coffins made, and his whole conduct indicated that he was bent on doing some mischief. In the afternoon Russell came to Bosts where he and Kisor got into a dispute. Kisor drew his knife and Russell raised his stick. But by the interference of friends, no actual assault was then made. A short time after, however, when neither Russell nor any of the company was suspecting any mischief, Kisor fell upon Russell with his knife, and inflicted upon him several mortal wounds, principally in the abdomen, and several others more slight, on his legs and arms. Russell lived only a few minutes after his friends reached him. All present were so much astonished at this deed, and concerned for Russell, that Kisor was permitted to escape.-- It is understood since, that Kisor had threatened the lives of several other persons. A reward of $250 is offerred for his apprehension. "He is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, square shouldered, dark skin, large mouth, has some appearance of the scald head, has large whiskers, speaks quick, is a blacksmith by trade, and his very looks indicates a rascal."
