State of North Carolina, Montgomery County.

Know all Men by these Presents, That we, P.C. SAUNDERS, Jesse A. SAUNDERS,  & M.A. MONROE are held and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the sum of  four (*note: this amount is hard to read, it has been scratched over and I can't make it out) hundred Dollars, current money, to be paid to the said State of North Carolina; to the which payment well and truly to be made, we bind Ourselves, our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents.

Sealed with our seals, and dated the 7th day of January 1868

The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That if the above bounden, P.C. SAUNDERS Administrator -- ---- --- of all and singular the Goods and Chattels, Rights, and Credits of Richard CRANFORD, deceased, do make or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the deceased, which have or may come to the hands, knowledge or possession of the said P.C. SAUNDERS or into the hands or possession of any person or persons for him and the same so made, do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited in County Court, within the time present prescribed by law, after the date of these presents ; and the same goods, chattels and credits, and all other the goods, chattels and credits of the deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time hereafter shall come into the hands or possession of the said P.C. SAUNDERS or into the hands or possession or any other person or persons for him do well and truly administer according to law : And further, do make, or cause to be made, a true and just account of his said administration, agreeably to law, after the date of these presents ; and all the rest and residue of the said goods, chattels and credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said administration account, (the same being first allowed Court,) shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons, respectively, as the same shall become due, pursuant to the true intent and meaning of the Act in that case made and provided-And it shall appear that any Will or Testament was made by the deceased, and the Executor or Executors therein named do exhibit the same in Court, making request to have it allowed and approved of accordingly, if the said P.C. SAUNDERS above bounden, being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said Letters of Administration, (approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the said Court,) then this Obligation to be void ; otherwise to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

We the undersigned having been appointed by the court of Pleas and Quarters Sessions July Term 1862 to lay off and alot to Elizabeth CRANFORD Widow of Richard CRANFORD, Dec'd. her years allowance out of the estate of her husband. ? Proceeded to do the same on the 5th day of August just as follows

1 Bed and furniture her choice

All the poultry on hand

$10.00 in cash for groceries                  10.00

The use of 1 cow 12 months                $106.75  (*note last two digits of this number has been marked thru.)

Court.  The Petition of Elizabeth CRANFORD respectfully show your worship that she is the widow of Richard CRANFORD  who died in said County since the last Term of this Court.  That Angus D. CRANFORD administrator on said estate at this term of said Court and Sessions your worship. that Thos. J. BRIGHT Esqr., George COGGIN, Eli DAVIS, and James DAVIS be appointed commissioners to view the provisions, crops & stock on hand and lay her off a comfortable years support for herself and family.

Ordered by the Court that Thos. J. BRIGHT Esqr., George COGGIN, Eli DAVIS & James DAVIS be appointed a committee to view the estate and set apart to Elizabeth CRANFORD a comfortable years support for herself and family.

CRANFORD}  This cause coming on to be heard and being heard upon the report of the commissioners which was filed during the Term, said Report is in all respects confirmed and judgment is granted against Angus D. CRANFORD Admin. for One hundred and six dollars and costs to be paid out of any funds in his hand.

I DC MCAULAY Sheriff of said County attended the following Jury of good and lawful men viz  John HALL, Jackson BEAMON, Wm. G. DEBERRY, Calvin CALLICOTT, PC SAUNDERS

Who after being duly sworn by me according to law proceeded on the 13th day of June 1867 in obedience of the annexed writ to lay off and allott to Elizabeth CRANFORD her dower and ? in the lands of Richard CRANFORD decd, ? in said writ according to the following ? and bounds beginning at a stump in James CRANFORD lines and runs So 60 Et 63 1/2 pols to a red oak Hickory points there So 30 Deg(?) West 126 1/2 pols to a stake then north 60 Deg W 63 1/2 pols to a stake thence north 30 deg Et 126 1/2 pols to the beginning containing 50 acres also one tract containing 58 acres adjoining the above beginning a a Hickory in the bead of a small hollow and runs West along the above in part 80 pols to a pine  Then north to the line of James HURLY 50 acres tract thence  thence along said line crossing spencer creek to a turkey oak thence along a line to a turkey oak, the corner of the above tract. It being one third in value of all the lands of which the said Richard CRANFORD was ? in fee at the time of his death including the dwelling house in which the decd accustomed to dwell most generally before his death commonly call the mansion house.  Together with the out houses building and other improvements thereunto belonging or ? thereunto and also proceeded to put her in possession of the same

Montgomery County}  Jan Term  1867

To the worshipful the Justice of said Court the petition of Elizabeth CRANFORD respectfully showeth to your worship that her said husband died interstate in Montgomery County in the year 1863 leaving his surviving the following children Laura, Elizran, Alvira and Joel CRANFORD who are his heirs at law your petitioner further showeth that her said husband at this time of his death was seized in fee simple of a tract of land situated in said County adjoining the lands of Jas CRANFORD Dec'd and others containing about two hundred acres.  You petitioner further showeth that she desires to have her dower in said land allotted to her and to that end she prays your worships to order a writ to be issued to the sheriff commanding him to summon twelve freeholders connected with the parties neither by affinity or consa????? and entirely distrubted to view the aforesaid tract of land and to allot and set apart to her one third part thereof including the dwelling house and all out houses buildings and improvements appertaining to the same for the term of her natural life and report their proceedings in due form of law may it please your worships to order subpeanas with copies of this petition to be issued to the aforesaid heirs requiring them to appear at the next term of this court and show cause if any they can why the prayer of your petitioner shall not be granted and your petitioner as in duly bound will ever pray.

You are hereby Commanded to make known to Laura, Elizar, Alvirar and Joel CRANFORD heirs at law of [blank] deceased, that Elizabeth CRANFORD widow of Said [blank] deceased, has filed her petition in this Court for dower in the Lands described in her petition : Whereupon a Writ of Dower will be moved for at the next Term of this Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, to be held for the county of Montgomery, at the Court-House in Troy, on the first Monday in April next, when and where you may attend and make objection if you think proper.

WITNESS, C.C. WADE, Clerk of our said Court at Office in Troy, the first Monday in January 1867.

Know all men by these presents, that we,

A.D. CRANFORD, P.C. SAUNDERS, & James DAVIS are held and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the sum of fourteen Hundred dollars, current money, to be paid to the said State of North Carolina, - for which payment, well and truly to be made, be bind ourselves, our heirs, executors or administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this 8 day of July A.D., 1862

The Condition of this obligation is such, that if the above bounden A.D. CRANFORD administator of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of Richard CRANFORD, deceased, do  make or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular goods the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the deceased which have or shall come to the hands, knowledge or possession of the said A.D. CRANFORD, or into the hands or possession of any person or persons for him, and the same, so made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the County Court of Montgomery within ninety days from the date of these presents : and the same goods, chattels and credits, and all other the goods, chattels and credits of the deceased, at the time of his death ; or which at any time hereafter shall come into the hands or possession of the said A.D. CRANFORD or into the hands or possession of any person for him, do well and truly administer according to law ; and further do make, or cause to be made a true and just account of his said administration, agreeably to law, and after the date of these presents ; and all the rest and residue of the said goods, chattels, and credits which shall be found remaining upon the administrator account, (the same being allowed by the County Court,) shall deliver and pay unto such persons or persons, respectively, as the same shall become due, pursuant to the true intent and meaning of the General Assembly in that case made and provided.  And if it shall appear that any Will or Testament was made by the deceased, and the executors therein named do exhibit the same to Court, making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly, if the said A.D. CRANFORD above bounden being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said letters of Administration, (approbation of such testament being made in said Court,) then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
