We the undersigned haveing bein appointed by the court of Pleas and Quarters Sessions July Term 1862 to lay off and allot to Rutha CRANFORD Widow of James CRANFORD Decd hir years allowance out of the estate of hir husband Decd. proceded to do the same on the 5th of August inst as follows

20 Bushels Corn                       $ 1 each not on hand

10 Bushels Wheat                                     on hand

1 Bed & furniture hir choice

200 - lb Bacon not on hand 30 cts 35 on hand

all the poultry on hand

all the wool on hand

cash for grocerys                              $20.00

all the soap pn hand

1 Bushel salt not on hand  $10.00

1 choice cow on hand

The petition of Ruthe CRANFORD widow

of James CRANFORD, respectfully (page torn) unto your worshipful, that her said husband died intestate in the County aforesaid since the last Term of this Court and that letters of Administration on his estate have been granted to Thos. J. BRIGHT adminr, the previous Term~

Your petitoner further showeth that she desires to have her years support out of the estate of her said husband, allotted to her according to law in and to that end she prays your worshipful to appoint one Justice of the Peace and three free holders not connected with her to view the estate of her deceased husband, and to allot & set apart to her so much as the crop, stock and provisions belonging there to as may be adequte to the support of herself and family for one year and if there shall not be a sufficicency on hand to afford such allowance, then to assess the deficiency in money and report this proceedings under thier hands and seals to the next term of this Court-

And your petitoner as in duty bound will ever pray ??

Know all Men by these Presents, That we, Thos. J. BRIGHT, A.H. SANDERS & George COGGINS are held firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the sum of Sixteen Hundred current money, to be paid to the said State; to the which payment, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and adminstrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents.  Sealed with our seals, and dated this 8th day of July A.D. 1862.

The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That if the above-bounden Thos. J. BRIGHT Administrator of all and singular, the goods and chattels, rights and credits of James CRANFORD deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a perfect inventory of all and singular, the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, knowledge, or possession of any person or persons, for  ??? and the same so made, do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, one attested copy therof, to the County Court, where orders for administration passed within ninety days after the date of these presents, and the same goods, chattels and credits and all other goods, chattels and credits of the deceased at the time of his death, of which will come into the hands or posession of the said Thomas J. BRIGHT or into the hands or possession of any person or persons for heirs do well and truly administer according to law, and further do make, or cause to be made, a true and just account of his said administration, within two years after the date of these presents, and all the rest and residue of the said goods, chattels, and credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said administration's account, (the same being first examined  and allowed by the Governor and Council, Superior or County Court,) shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively, as the same shall become due, pursuant to the true intent and meaning of the act in that case made and provided.  And if it shall appear that  any will or testament was made by the deceased, and the executor or executors therein named do exhibit the same into Court, making a request to have it allowed and approved of accordingly, if the said Thos. J. BRIGHT above bounden, being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said letters of administration (approbation of such testament being first had and made in the said Court,) then this Obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in force and virtue.

To the worshipful the Justices of said Court

The petition of  Ruth CRANFORD widow of James CRANFORD respectfully showeth unto your worships, that her said husband died intestate in Montgomery County during the month of June last, leaving his surviving the following children to wit:

HARDISTER & wife Elonishor,      HEWLIN & wife Eliza,     BEAMON & wife Malinda,   BEAMAN & wife Mary  & W.W. CRANFORD who are his only heirs at law.

Your petitioner further showeth, that her said husband at the time of his death was seized free and simple of a tract of land  in Said County adjoining the lands of Thos J. BRIGHT, Richard CRANFORD & others and others containing by estimation some two hundred acres.  

Your petitioner further showeth that she desires to have her (word "land" is written but crossed out) dower allotted to her and to that end she prays your worships to order a writ to be issued to the Sheriff, commanding him to Summon five free holders, connected with the parties neither by cont????? or affinity and entirely disinterested to view the aforesaid tract of land and to allot an dlot  a parcel to her, one third part thereof including the dwelling house, buildings & appurtinances and improvments appurtaining to the same for the time of her natural life and to report their proceedings in due for of law~

And your Petitioner will ever pray,

Ordered by the court PC SANDERS, Esqr. James DAVIS & George COGGIN be appointed to lay off and allot to Ruthy CRANFORD a year support out of the stock and provisions of her deceased husband, James CRANFORD and report to the next term of this court-

The Commissioners who were appointed at the last Term of this Court, to allot to the petitioner her year provisions out of the estate of her deceased husband, having filed this report during the foreout Term the same is all respect, confirmed and ordered to be recorded~  It is further ordered & adjudged that Thos. J. BRIGHT Admir of James CRANFORD pay the cost of this petitioner out of the costs of his said intestate.
