     Cornelius C. Smock was born in April 1821 at Bullitt County, Kentucky. He was the son of David Smock and Dorcas Cole. Cornelius C. Smock married Mary St. Clair on 12 November 1848. Cornelius C. Smock died on 28 December 1874 at Parsons, Labette County, Kansas, at age 53 years and 8 months.

     Hannah Van Cleaf was born on 20 December 1833. She married Benjamin Schenck Smock, son of Hendrick Smock and Anne Vanderveer, on 14 November 1853. As of 14 November 1853,her married name was Smock. Hannah Van Cleaf died on 18 September 1876 at age 42 years, 8 months and 29 days. Hannah Van Cleaf was buried in the Old Presbyterian Churchyard, Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

     James W. Smock was born on 19 February 1840 at Johnson County, Indiana. He began military service in 1861 at Johnson County, Indiana, enlisting in Company F of the 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He served in the Civil War with Company F, 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, old Sol Meredith being the first Colonel of the regiment; was in the battle of Fredericksburg, second battle of Bull Run, Southmountain, Antietam, Gettysburg and the Wilderness, and in many other fights and skirmishes; was wounded at the siege of Petersburg, June 18, 1864 between 1861 and 1864. He relocated to Taylor Township, Benton County, Iowa, in 1865. He was elected County Recorder (re-elected 1874 and 1876) in 1872 at Benton County, Iowa. He married Hennie Shotwell on 26 November 1874 at Vinton, Benton County, Iowa. James W. Smock was City Treasurer in 1878 at Taylor Township, Benton County, Iowa. He died after 1878 at Iowa?.
