Be it remembered that on the 19th day of April 1820 the last day of the above term of Sumner Co. court the above case came on for __ in part the said Peggy Stalcup was called to come into court and answer the petition of the said Stephen for a divorce but came not; that it appeared to the satisfaction of the court that a copy of the said _ petition and delivered by the sheriff of this county; that the said Petitioner Stephen Stalcup also proved to the satisfaction of the court that the said Peggy was guilty of adultry as set forth in his petition, it therefore ordered, judged, and decreed by the court that the marriage subsisting between the said Stephen Stalcup and Peggy Stalcup the above named parties be dissolved and the said Stephen Stalcup pay the costs of this suit. Stephen W. Stalcup was severly beaten by southern sympathizers during the Civil War between 1861 and 1865.¹ He left his native State when a young man and located at Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana. He was at one time a noted detective. During the war he was an enrolling officer. The Copperheads tried to compel him to promise not to vote for Lincoln's second election, but he vowed to vote for Lincoln if he lived to go to the polls. The copperheads then burned his barns and fences, killed his hogs, and finally beat him nearly to death, from the effects of which he died, but not until he had case his vote for Abraham Lincoln.¹⁸ He died in 1867 at Greene County, Indiana, at age 70 years.¹

     Anne Jean Robbins was born in 1789.¹ She married Judge Joseph Lyman, son of Joseph Lyman and Mary Sheldon.² Anne Jean Robbins died in 1867 at age 78 years.¹

     Mary L. Knight was This family is very well documented in the LDS. This is due to Mary's grandfather being an Elder in the LDS church.. She was born on 3 July 1842 at Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Wesley Knight and Louisa Cowles. Mary L.      George G. Smock married Ellen Smock, daughter of Rulef Smock and Mary Van Dorn. George G. Smock was born on 8 May 1788. He was the son of George Smock and Sarah Covenhoven. George G. Smock married Sarah Smock, daughter of Garret Smock and Jane Schenck, circa 1808. George G. Smock died on 21 April 1868 at age 79 years, 11 months and 13 days. George G. Smock was buried in the family cemetery, Colt's Neck (now known as) Atlantic Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey.¹

     Doctor James Rush was medical practioner. He was author of several books, one of which, "The Philosophy of the Human Voice," became a standard textbook for all students. It has been said that Dr. James Rush 'Died having no children with his wife.' I wonder, what does this mean? That he had no children with his wife? Did he have children with someone else? Julia Ann, for instance?
A noted philanthropist, he left his entire fortune to found 'The Ridgway Branch of the Philadelphia Library.' He was born on 15 March 1786 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Doctor Benjamin Rush and Julia Stockton. Doctor James Rush enrolled as a medical apprentice to his father in 1805.¹ He studied in Edinburgh between 1806 and 1808 at Scotland.¹ He took his M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in 1809.¹ He was executor of the will of Doctor Benjamin Rush on 18 January 1812; Leaves to his wife Julia Rush, his farm called Lydenham near Philadelphia, to receive income, etcetera, for support of herself, her minor sons and daughter Julia Rush, at her death to his children. Sixth Corporal Henry B. Hoover enlisted in Company "D" of the Fifteenth Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry (Union) at the age of 39 on 15 October 1861 at Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa.² He mustered on 1 November 1861 at Keokuk, Iowa.² "On the morning of April 1, 1862, the regiment marched to St. Louis, where it embarked, with orders to report to General Grant at Savannah, Tenn. Arriving, the night before the commencement of the battle of Shiloh."⁹ "The brigade now returned to Corinth, where, on the 3d and 4th of October, 1862, it took part in the hard fought battles in and around that place. the Fifteenth Iowa occupied and advanced position and suffered heavy loss."⁹ "Near the close of the year 186[3], in response to the call of the Government, Three-fourths of the men of the Fifteenth Iowa had re-enlisted for three years, or during the war, to date from the expiration of their original term of service."⁹ He re-enlisted and re-mustered on 6 December 1863.² "On the 3d of February, 1864, the regiment, with its brigade and division, again took up the line of march and became part of the army, under command of Maj. Gen. W. T. Sherman, which penetrated far into the interior of the State of Mississippi."⁹ "After a brief respite, the regiment went into battle on July 28, 1864, and again gloriously sustained the honor of the flag. The combined losses of the regiment in these three days of battle were 190 men and officers out of 428 engaged, making an aggregate loss of forty-five per cent. No regiment that participated in the great Atlanta campaign made a better record."⁹ He was promoted Sixth Corporal on 1 May 1865.² He mustered out and was noted for Distinguished Service on 24 July 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.      Wesley Knight was born in 1815 at Otsego, New York. He married Louisa Cowles, daughter of Elder Austin Cowles and Phoebe Wilbur, on 24 April 1838 at Kirtland, Lake County, Ohio. Wesley Knight died in 1871 at Fulton Township, Whiteside County, Illinois, at age 56 years.

     Moses Reeder Jr. was born in 1806 at Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Moses Reeder Sr.. Moses Reeder Jr. accompanied the immigration of Moses Reeder Sr. in 1816 to Whitchurch, York County, Ontario, Canada.² Moses Reeder Jr. married Elizabeth Toole before 1841.

     Nathan Rush was born on 25 October 1795. He was the son of David Rush and Mary Lewis. Nathan Rush died on 21 September 1871 at age 75 years, 10 months and 27 days.

     Lycurgus S. Stalcup was born on 14 November 1833 at Greene County, Indiana.¹ He was the son of Stephen W. Stalcup and Sarah Ann Smock.
