Her heroic death is related by BR in Letters Relating to Yellow Fever, Philadelphia, 1892, entries for Sept. 26 to Oct. 1, 1793. She had volunteered to keep house for her brother while Mrs. Rush and the children were in Princeton to escape the epidemic.
She worked tirelessly with Benjamin Rush among those sick and dying of yellow fever. Her death of yellow fever was a great source of grief to her brother Benjamin Rush. A monument was erected at her grave in the Presbyterian Church yard, buried by her two children in the Church yard.. She was born on 24 April 1743 at Oxford, near Byberry, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of John Rush and Susanna Hall. Rebecca Rush married Thomas Stamper on 11 June 1761. Rebecca Rush died on 1 October 1793 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at age 50 years, 5 months and 7 days. Died from yellow fever. Rebecca Rush was buried in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The tombstone read: 'An Affectionate and Grateful Brother/Hath Caused this stone to be Erected/in Memory of/Rebecca Wallace/Who died October 1, 1793. Aged 49 years/While She Was Performing the Highest/Acts of Kindness to Him, And of/Humanity to the Distrressed Citizens/of Philadelphia.'

Mentions: my ancient [unnamed] mother living. Wife Sarah Clemence. Sons Thomas Clemence and Richard Clemence. Daughtera Ann Applebey, Sarah Angel, and Abigail Thornton. My two grandchildren James Applebey under 21 and Ann Applebey under 18 and unmarried. Witnesses: William Hopkins, Joseph Smith, James Olney.4 James Applebee of Smithfield married Dorcas Paine, daughter of Benjamin Paine and Elizabeth Owen, say 1741 at Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island.1 James Applebee of Smithfield was a blacksmith at Smithfield, Rhode Island. He left a will on 21 January 1790 at Smithfield, Rhode Island; Appleby, James of Smithfield, blacksmith, somewhat advanced in years. Mentions sons John Appleby, James Appleby, Benjamin Appleby, Nathan Appleby, & Seth Appleby. Daughters: Katurah King, Priscilla Whipple, Elizabeth Smith, Hannah Mowry, & Sarah Latham. Witnesses: Job Aldrich, Daniel Mowry Jr., and David Steere.5 He died on 25 September 1798.5 His estate was probated on 4 February 1799.5
