Also called Holingshead.2 John Hollinshead Jr. was born on 12 November 1673 at 12th day, 9th month, St. Clements Parish, Danes, England.3 He was the son of John Hollinshead Sr. and Grace Scott.1 John Hollinshead Jr. accompanied the immigration of John Hollinshead Sr. and Grace Scott circa August 1678 to West Jersey Colony, New Jersey; He came "with family."3,4,5 John Hollinshead Jr. accompanied John Hollinshead Sr. and Grace Scott when John and Grace relocated before 7 September 1680 and came to reside in Burlington, Burlington County, New Jersey. John Hollinshead Jr. killed a turkey and a deer, providing valuable food for two families circa 1686. "Incidents of their (the early colonists of West New Jersey) wants are many, and the supplies sometimes unexpected; the family of John Hollinshead, who lived near Rankokas, being unprovided with powder and shot, were in distress, when Hollinshead the younger, a lad of 13, going through a corn field, saw a turkey; throwing a stick to kill it, a second came in sight; he killed both and carried them home. Soon after, at the house of Thomas Eves, he saw a buck; and telling Eves, he set his dogs, who followed it to Rankokas river, then frozen; the buck running on the ice, slid upon his side; the dogs seized it; Hollinshead coming up with a knife, eagerly jumped upon it; the buck rose with him on his back and sprung forward, his feet spreading asunder, slip'd gently down on his belly and gave Hollinshead a respite from danger and opportunity of killing him. By these means two families were supplied with food to their great joy. These and such like instances, in a new settled country, show with the distress the relief that sometimes unexpectedly attends it." - Excerpt from "Smith and his History of New Jersey."6 He and Agnes Hackney obtained a marriage license on 2 October 1693 at Burlington Monthly Meeting, Burlington County, New Jersey; given license to marry (ltm) by the Burlington Monthly Meeting.7,1 John Hollinshead Jr. and William Hollinshead Sr. were were among a group of 12 men appointed to lay out the roads in 1699 at Chester Township, New Jersey.6 John Hollinshead Jr. witnessed the will of John Hollinshead Sr. on 23 September 1699 at Burlington County, Jew Jersey; Will of John Hollinshead. Wife Grace. Sons--John, who has son John, William, who has Grace, Elizabeth, George and Sarah; legacy to servant girl Susannah Nott and to Peter Frettwell. Land on Elton's Run betw. John Wills, John Adams and George Greaves. Personal property. Executors--the two sons William and John. Witnesses--Rob't Roberts, Benj. Wheate and Henry Grubb.8 John Hollinshead Jr. and William Hollinshead Sr. were among a group of thirteen trustees of the Society of Friends on 9 April 1700. To this group James Adams and Esther, his wife, deeded one acre of land situate in the Township of Chester for meeting purposes.6

In 1704, John Hollinshead Jr. appeared on the census at Burlington County, New Jersey, Details provided: He appears in a Quaker record.9

He was brought before the second session of the Supreme Court in May 1704 at Burlington, New Jersey. The first indictment of this session was brought against John Hollinshead, of Rancocas Creek, as well as three others, for speaking contemptuously against the government. John was charged with saying --- "That the Governor (Lord Cornbury) had dissolved the Assembly but that they could get another just as good and if the Governor liked them not, he might go whence he came." The other indictments were for expressions as trivial in their nature, but in Lord Cornbury's eyes they were all magnified to mean sedition. Lord Cornbury, by the way, openly despised Quakers. The grand jury, to their credit, tried and acquitted him but the court refused to discharge him until he'd paid all the expenses. This incident show him to have been a man of sturdy independence of character who would not submit to what he considered an injustice and who was free and outspoken in his opinions. A writer in "The Friend" said of him:--- "He was a diligent attender of Meetings and exemplary therein. He was a true lover of his Friends and being well qualified for usefulness and hospitably disposed, he was very serviceable to his friends and neighbors."6 He was 4, 6, 1709 granted certificate to (gct) Newton Monthly Meeting by the Burlington Monthly Meeting on 6 June 1709.7

In 1739, John Hollinshead Jr. appeared on the census at Burlington County, New Jersey, Details provided: He appears in an Election Returns.10

He died in 1749 at New Jersey at age 75 years.
