Henry Howard, 5th Earl of Surrey was the successor of Thomas, 4th Earl of Surrey, 3rd Duke of Norfolk; 4th Earl of Surrey. Henry Howard, 5th Earl of Surrey was born in 1517. He was the son of Thomas, 4th Earl of Surrey, 3rd Duke of Norfolk and Elizabeth Stafford.1 Earl of Surrey at England in 1524. Henry Howard, 5th Earl of Surrey became Earl of Surrey when his father became Duke of Norfolk in 1524. He married Frances de Vere, daughter of John de Vere, 15th Earl of Oxford, in 1532.1 Henry Howard, 5th Earl of Surrey died on 21 January 1547 at Tower Hill, London, England, at age 30 years. The most serious charge was that Surrey had incorporated the arms of Edward the Confessor into his own. His accusers said that proved he was aiming at the crown. The charges were ridiculous. The Howards had a right to the arms of Edward the Confessor and Surrey's ancestors had worn them without being charged with treason. As was the usual custom of the time for nobles convicted of treason, the sentence was modified to simple beheading.
