She was the daughter of John Beaufort, Earl of Somerset, Marquess of Dorset and Margaret, Marchioness of Dorset.1 Lady Joan Beaufort married James I, King of Scotland, son of Robert III, King of Scotland and Annabella Drummond, on 2 February 1423/24; Her 1st.1 Lady Joan Beaufort married Sir James Stewart "the Black Knight of Lorn", son of Sir John Stewart of Innermeath and Isabel de Ergadia, in 1439; Her 2nd.1 Lady Joan Beaufort died on 15 July 1445.1
