Duchess of Lancaster.3 Blanche, Baroness Lancaster was born on 25 March 1345.2 She was the daughter of Henry, "of Grosmont," Duke of Lancaster and Isabel de Beaumont.1,2 Blanche, Baroness Lancaster was the successor of Henry, "of Grosmont," Duke of Lancaster; 3rd Lord Lancaster.4 Blanche, Baroness Lancaster married John, "of Gaunt," Duke of Lancaster, son of Edward III, King of England and Philippa d' Avesnes L.G., on 19 May 1359 at Reading Abbey, Berkshire, England; His 1st. 2nd cousins, 1x removed.1 Black Death in England. Between 1361 and 1369. Baroness Lancaster between 1361 and 1369.1 Blanche, Baroness Lancaster became, on the death s.p. of her sister Maud, suo jure Baroness Lancaster on 10 April 1362.1 She died on 12 September 1369 at age 24 years, 5 months and 18 days. Geoffrey Chaucer's career was prospering, and his first important poem-- Book of the Duchess--seems further evidence of his connection with persons in high place. That poem of more than 1,300 lines, probably written in late 1369 or early 1370, is an elegy for Blanche, duchess of Lancaster, John of Gaunt's first wife, who died of the Black Death (the bubonic plague) in September 1369.5,6,2 She was the successor of Henry IV, "of Bolingbroke," King of England; 5th Lord Lancaster.1 Blanche, Baroness Lancaster was buried in Old St. Paul's Cathedral, London, England.2
