Between 1249 and 1250.¹⁴ Louis IX "le Saint", roi de France landed his forces, on a new attack on Islam, on 5 June 1249 at Egypt.¹⁶ He captured Damietta on 6 June 1249 at Egypt.¹⁶ Annals of Monte Fernando 1250: "Lodowicus capitur a Saracenis."¹⁷ He witnessed the death of Robert I, comte d' Artois on 9 February 1250 at al-Mansurah, Egypt; Robert of Artois led a surprise attack on the Egyptian camp two miles (three kilometres) from al-Mansurah and, rejecting the advice of more experienced campaigners, impetuously moved ahead, only to be trapped within the city. Many knights lost their lives.¹⁸ Louis IX "le Saint", roi de France mounted an attack on Cairo circa March 1250 at "Spring", Egypt.¹⁶ He trapped by the Sultan, with his entire Crusading army, and forced to surrender in April 1250 at Egypt.¹⁶ He paid an enormous ransom to the Sultan, and surrendered Damietta, then sailed to Palestine on 6 May 1250.^16,18 He spent four years building fortifications and strengthening the defenses of the Latin Kingdom between May 1250 and March 1254 at Palestine.¹⁶ He departed Palestine and returned to France circa March 1254 at "Spring".¹⁶ He organized the last major Crusade, and this time the response of the French nobility was unenthusiastic, and the expedition was directed against the city of Tunis rather than Egypt, in 1270.^19,16 Annals of Monte Fernando 1270: "Item Lodowicus rex Francie, et Dominus Edwardus filius regis Anglie adiverunt terram sanctam, et mortuos est rex Francie."²⁰ Tunisian Crusade between July 1270 and September 1271. He died on 25 August 1270 at Carthage, Tunisia, at age 55 years and 4 months. After a string of successful battles, and taking Carthage, the plague struck his army, and he could not withstand it. He had ruled 43 years, and 10 months.^3,4 He was the predecessor of Philippe III "le Hardi", roi de France; King of France.⁷ Louis IX "le Saint", roi de France was buried in the Abbey of St. Denis, Paris, France. The crusade dissolved, and Louis's body was brought back to France. All along the way, through Italy, the Alps, Lyon, and Cluny, crowds gathered and knelt as the procession passed. It reached Paris on the eve of Pentecost in 1271. The funeral rites were solemnly performed at Notre-Dame de Paris. He was buried in the tomb of the kings of France.⁵ He was was canonized by Pope Boniface VIII on 11 August 1297.⁴ His feast day. On 25 August.⁴

     William de Montagu was grandson and heir of William (d. 1217) and son of Drew (d.v.p. 1216) and Aline. He was born circa 1213?. He was the son of Drew de Montagu and Aline Basset.^1,2 William de Montagu was still underage in 1227.³ He obtained, as heir to his father and grandfather, possession of his lands in 1234.³ He married Berta (?).       Princesa Isabella de Aragón was born in 1247.⁶ She was the daughter of Jaume I, rey de Aragón and Iolande, Hercegnõ Magyarország.^3,4,5 Princesa Isabella de Aragón married Philippe III "le Hardi", roi de France, son of Louis IX "le Saint", roi de France and Marguerite de Provence, on 28 May 1262 at Clermont-Ferrand, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne, France; His 1st. 2nd cousins, 1x removed. By permission of Pope Urban IV.^4,3,5,7 Tunisian Crusade between July 1270 and September 1271. Princesa Isabella de Aragón died on 28 January 1271 at Cosenza, Calabria, Spain, at age 24 years. She died as a result of a fall from a horse on her return from the Tunisian Crusade. A funerary monument for Isabelle was erected in the Cathedral of Cosenza.⁸

     Also called Margaret de Quincy.² Margaret de Quincy was daughter and co-heir of Roger de Quinci, Earl of Winchester.³ She was born circa 1221?. She was born in 1222 at England.¹ She was the daughter of Roger, 2nd Earl of Winchester and Helen of Galloway.¹ Margaret de Quincy married William III, 5th Earl of Derby, son of William II, 4th Earl of Derby and Alice of Chester, in 1238; His 2nd.³ Margaret de Quincy died on 12 March 1270/71 at England at age 49 years.¹

     Henry of Almain was second, but first surviving son, of 2nd Earl of Cornwall.² He was born on 2 November 1235.² He was the son of Richard, "of Cornwall," Earl of Cornwall and Isabella Marshall.¹ Henry of Almain was a witness where Edward I "Longshanks", King of England took part in a Crusade, with his cousin, Henry of Cornwall, in 1270 at the Holy Land. Henry of Almain departed on Crusade in 1270. He died on 13 March 1270/71 at Viterbo, Italy, at age 35 years, 4 months and 11 days. He was murdered while at mass, in a chapel, or as some say in the Cathedral of San Nicolo, by Simon and Guy, sons of Simon de Montfort, in revenge for the indignities suffered to their father's dead body after his defeat at Evesham in 1265. d.s.p., v.p.²

     Also called Gauthier I de Enghien.³ Gauthier II "le Grand" d'Enghien was born at Enghien, Hainault, Belgium.³ He was the son of Siger I d'Enghien and Alice de Sotteghem.^1,2 Arms: Arnould d'Enghien (Rouers d'Enghien ): Gironné d'argent et de sable, le sable semé de croisettes d'or.⁴ Gauthier II "le Grand" d'Enghien married Marie de Rethel, daughter of Manassés IV de Réthel and Isabeau d'Ecry, in 1266.³ Gauthier II "le Grand" d'Enghien died on 9 May 1271.³

     Joan de Cantelou was born in 1249?. She was the daughter of William de Cantilupe, Baron Abergavenny and Eve de Braose.¹ Joan de Cantelou married Sir Henry de Hastinges, son of Sir Henry de Hastinges and Ada of Huntingdon.¹ Joan de Cantelou died before June 1271.¹

     Walter de Burgh, 1st Earl of Ulster was born in 1232.² He was the son of Richard de Burgh, Lord of Connaught and Egidia de Lacy.^3,4 Walter de Burgh, 1st Earl of Ulster married Avelina FitzPiers, daughter of John FitzPiers, Lord of Berkhamstead and Isabel le Bigod, before 1255. Annals of Ulster 1269: "Walter de Burgh, Earl of Ulster and lord of Connacht, died."⁵ 1st Earl of Ulster at Ireland before 1271. Annales Hiberniae 1271: "Pestis, fames, et gladius, in Hibernia et maxime in Media; interficitur Nicolaus de Verdon, et Johannes frater ejus. Obiit Gualterus de Burgo comes Ultoniae."⁶ Walter de Burgh, 1st Earl of Ulster died on 28 July 1271 at age 39 years. Arms: Quarterly argent and gules overall a cross of the second.⁷

     Also called Elizabeth. Erzsébet, Hercegnõ Magyarország was born in 1236.² She was the daughter of Béla IV, Király Magyarország and Maria Laskarina.^1,2 Erzsébet, Hercegnõ Magyarország married Heinrich XIII, Herzog von Nieder-Bayern, son of Otto II "der Erlauchte", Herzog von Bayern, in 1250.^1,2 Erzsébet, Hercegnõ Magyarország died on 24 October 1271 at age 35 years.^1,2

     Philip Basset, Justiciar of Wycombe was born circa 1184 at Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.¹ He was the son of Alan Basset and Aline de Gay.¹ Philip Basset, Justiciar of Wycombe married Hawise de Louvaine, daughter of Sir Matthew de Louvaine and Muriel (?), before 1238.      István, Herceg of Slovenia was born circa April 1235. He was the son of András II, Király Magyarország and Beatrice d' Este.¹ István, Herceg of Slovenia married Catherine Morosini circa 1265.^1,2 István, Herceg of Slovenia died in 1272.^1,2

     Seigneur de Trie & de Mouchy.² Comte de Dammartin.² Mathieu de Trie, comte de Dammartin was born circa 1218?. He was the son of Jean II, seigneur de Trie and Alix de Dammartin.² Mathieu de Trie, comte de Dammartin married Marselie de Montmorency, daughter of Mathieu III de Montmorency and dame de Seans en Othe Jeanne de Brienne. Mathieu de Trie, comte de Dammartin died in 1272.¹
