Also called Santxo Azkarra in Basque. Sancho VII Sánchez "el Fuerte", rey de Navarra was "Hijo y sucesor de Sancho VI 'el Sabio."1' Sancho VII Sánchez "el Fuerte", rey de Navarra also went by the name of Sancho "the Strong". Also called rey Sancho VII Sánchez "el Fuerte" de Navarra.2 He was born before 1177. He was the son of Sancho VI Garcés "el Sabio", rey de Navarre and Beatrice, Infante de Castilla. King of Navarre at Spain between 27 June 1194 and 1234.2 Sancho VII Sánchez "el Fuerte", rey de Navarra was a witness where Alfonso VIII Sánchez "el de Las Navas", rey de Castilla abandoned at the last minute by the fellow Christian Kingdoms of Navarre and Leon (ruled by a cousin) which led to a great Muslim victory in 1195 at the Battle of Alarcos.3 Sancho VII Sánchez "el Fuerte", rey de Navarra was denounced by a Papal Bull, calling on him to unite rather with the Christian Kings of the Peninsula than continue his alliances with the Moors, in 1196.4 He left his kingdom, went to Morocco, and served the Sultan for three years between 1197 and 1199.4 He joined Alfonso VIII with his army and had a share of the great victory of Navas de Tolosa against the Sultan in 1212.4 Alfonso VIII of Castile, with the assistance of Sancho VII of Navarre, and Pedro II of Aragon, joined by troops from Portugal and Leon (but not the King, Alfonso the Barbarian, who again betrayed Castile), led a victory against the Moors which was the culmination of the Reconquest of Spain by the Christians. On 16 July 1212 at the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. His leadership was decisive in the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in the year 1212. In that engagement, the Christian forces of Sancho, Alfonso, Afonso II of Portugal, and Peter II of Aragón allied to defeat the forces of the Almohad Caliph Muhammad an-Nasir. Sancho's troops cut the chains guarding the store of Miramamolín. For this, the chains became the symbol of Navarre and replaced the sable eagle on a golden field with a golden chain on a gules field in the Navarrese coat-of-arms.5 He was the predecessor of Thibaud I "le Chansonnier", rey de Navarra; King of Navarre.6 Sancho VII Sánchez "el Fuerte", rey de Navarra died on 7 April 1234 at Tudela, Navarre, Spain.5

Llewelyn arranged with his wife Eva that the marriage of his daughter, Isabel, to Llewelyn's son David should still happen. The king's chancellor received a report on William's death. It said: "At that manor which is called Crokein he was made to croak. He was hanged from a certain tree and not secretly or by night but openly and in broad daylight in front of eight hundred people and more, called together to view this pitiable and woeful spectacle, and especially those to whom William de Braose senior and his sons were hostile by reason of injury inflicted on their ancestors whether recent or otherwise."7,8 Joan Plantagenet died in February 1237 at Arlechwedd Isaf, Aberconwy, Caernarvonshire, Wales.4,2
