There are lots of uncertainties about these lines, since many records have not survived. Source materials for most things in the medieval Balkans are ususally not from contemporary writers, and the few contemporary sources existing are usually from Byzantine writers, not writers from the various states themselves.      William de Braose, 6th Baron of Brecknock was a descendant of Griffith, Prince of Wales.3 He was the descendant of Gruffyd ap Llywelyn, Brenin Cymru; an ancestor of "Black William" de Braose.3 William de Braose, 6th Baron of Brecknock was born in 1204.4 He was the son of Reginald de Braose, 5th Baron of Brecknock and Grace de Briwere.2 Lord of Ossory at Leinster, Ireland, in 1225.5 William de Braose, 6th Baron of Brecknock was created Lord of Ossory by right of his wife, Eva Marshal in 1225.5 He married Eva Marshall, daughter of William "the Elder" Marshall, 4th Earl of Pembroke and Isabel, suo jure Countess of Pembroke, before 1226.2 William de Braose, 6th Baron of Brecknock was a witness where John Tadody de Braose, Lord of Bramber and Gower purchased the Rape of Bramber from Reginald and his son, William, in 1226 at Sussex, England.4 William de Braose, 6th Baron of Brecknock succeeded his father as Lord of Abergavenny (right), Builth and other Marcher Lordships in 1227.4 He was styled by the Welsh as "Black William". He was imprisoned by Llewelyn ap Iorwerth during Hubert de Burgh's disastrous Kerry (Ceri) campaign, though ransomed and released after a short captivity during which he agreed to cede Builth as a marriage portion for his daughter Isabella on her betrothal to David, son and heir of Llewelyn, in 1229.4 He died on 2 May 1230 at Wales at age 26 years. He is said to have been involved with Joan, wife of Llewelyn, and been publically hanged for the crime. Llewelyn arranged with his wife Eva that the marriage of his daughter, Isabel, to Llewelyn's son David should still happen. The king's chancellor received a report on William's death. It said: "At that manor which is called Crokein he was made to croak. He was hanged from a certain tree and not secretly or by night but openly and in broad daylight in front of eight hundred people and more, called together to view this pitiable and woeful spectacle, and especially those to whom William de Braose senior and his sons were hostile by reason of injury inflicted on their ancestors whether recent or otherwise."4,3
