Arms: Argent, a saltire gules.5 Maurice fitz Gerald was younger son of Gerald and Nest.3 In the first edition of CP, it was said Maurice married a daughter of Arnulf de Montgomery. But Maurice was only an infant, if born, when Arnulf was exiled in 1102. There is no record of his marriage.6 He was born circa 1100 at Windsor, Berkshire, England.3 He was the son of Gerald fitz Walter, Constable of Pembroke Castle and Nesta verch Rhys o Deheubarth.3,4 Maurice fitz Gerald received, for his share in Wales, the lordship of Lanstephen.3 He was granted the stewardship of St. Davids hereditarily by his brother Bishop David.3 He married Alice de Montgomery, daughter of Arnald de Montgomery and Lafracota Ó Brien, before 1150.7 Maurice fitz Gerald was promised, by Dermot MacMurrough, to share Wexford with his half-brother Robert fitz Stephen, if they would help him regain his kingdom, a promise he would honor, in 1167.8 He was leader of the 3rd landing of Norman's who came to help Dermot MacMurrough recover Leinster, landing with a force of two ships circa October 1169 at Wexford, Ireland.9,6 Annales Hiberniae 1170: "Mauricius Geraldinus, uterinus frater Stephanidis, cum decem equitibus, sagittariis triginta, circaque 100. peditibus, in Hyberniam applicuit cum duabus navibus ad Weisfordiam."10 He arrived with with Raymond le Gros de Carew on 1 May 1170 at Ireland. Maurice de Prendergast and Maurice Fitzgerald are identified as the same man by Gerald of Wales, and said then to have arrived in Ireland on May 1, 1170. This is correct for Maurice Fitz Gerald, and he did not arrive with Strongbow, who followed shortly thereafter.11,12 He arrived in Waterford, after Richard de Clare, aka Strongbow, had taken the town, on 25 August 1170.9 He and Gerald fitz Maurice, 1st Baron of Offaly were present at the Siege of Dublin in 1171 at Dublin, Ireland.13 Maurice fitz Gerald was made one of the three keepers of Dublin by King Henry II in 1172 at Easter.6 He died on 1 September 1176 at Wexford, Ireland.6
