Romilda von Bayern was born circa 565. She was the daughter of Garibald I, Herzog von Bayern. Romilda von Bayern married Gisulf II ex genere Gausus, duc di Frioul, son of Gisulf ex genere Gausus, Duke of the city of Forum Julii. Romilda von Bayern died in 610. The Avars now killed by the sword all the Langobards who were already of the age of manhood, but the women and children they consigned to the yoke of captivity. Romilda indeed, who had been the head of all this evil-doing, the king of the Avars, on account of his oath, kept for one night as if in marriage as he had promised her, but upon the next he turned her over to twelve Avars, who abused her through the whole night with their lust, succeeding each other by turns. Afterwards too, ordering a stake to be fixed in the midst of a field, he commanded her to be impaled upon the point of it, uttering these words, moreover, in reproach: 'It is fit you should have such a husband.' Therefore the detestable betrayer of her country who looked out for her own lust more than for the preservation of her fellow citizens and kindred, perished by such a death."1

FatherBeli ap Rhun, Brenin Gwynedd2,1 b. circa 530, d. 599
Since Iago apparently died only 18 years (or thereabouts) before his grandson Cadwallon, he was evidently elderly at the time. Thus, as has been pointed out on numerous occasions, there are chronological difficulties with accepting his traditional pedigree [HG.1: "... Iacob map Beli map Rhun map Mailcun ..."], which would make him the great-grandson of the famous Maelgwn Gwynedd, king of Gwynedd, and contemporary of Gildas, who is frequently dated to the middle of the sixth century (perhaps not correctly). Despite these doubts, the traditional genealogy of Iago is not absolutely impossible, even if Maelgwn died in the middle of the sixth century. Furthermore, since the AC obituary of Maelgwn has been convincingly shown to be a tenth century fabrication (see "Gildas and Maelgwn: Problems of Dating", by David N. Dumville, in Gildas: New Approaches (ed. Lapidge & Dumville, The Boydell Press), 51-9), it is not impossible that both Gildas and Maelgwn should be dated earlier in the sixth century, which would ease the chronological problems caused by the above genealogy. Thus, if a consensus should arise that the work of Gildas should be dated a generation or so earlier than it normally has been, the skeptical position on these earlier generations might have to be reevaluated.3 Iago ap Beli, Brenin Gwynedd was born circa 560.4 He was the son of Beli ap Rhun, Brenin Gwynedd.2,1 Iago ap Beli, Brenin Gwynedd offered sanctuary to the young King Edwin of Deira in 588. King of Gywnedd at Wales between 599 and 613. He was attacked by King Æthelfrith of Bernicia for harboring the young King Edwin of Deira (whose father Æthelfrith had murdered) in 613 at Chester, Cheshire, England. Iago rallied the combined British armies of the South behind him, an army that included his 4th cousin Selyf of Powys, and the two clashed at Caer-Legion (Chester). The outcome was unresolved and both sides claiming victory, but one thing is certain: King Iago was killed in the slaughter.4 He died in 613 at Chester, Cheshire, England. Killed by King Æthelfirth of Bernicia at the Battle of Caer-Legion.5 He witnessed the death of Brenin Powys Selyf Sarffgadau ap Cynan o Powys in 613 at the Battle of Caer-Legion, Chester, Cheshire, England; Killed by King Æthelfirth of Bernicia at the Battle of Caer-Legion. "Bellum Caire Legion ubi sancti occisi sunt & cecidit Solon m. Conaen, rex Britanorum."4,6,7 Iago ap Beli, Brenin Gwynedd died circa 616.3,8
