He married Elizabeth Spencer, daughter of Edmund Spencer and Joan (?), circa 1500.1,2 John Gye and Elizabeth Spencer filed a suit against Edward Prendergast and Thomasyne his wife regarding deeds as to the manors of Possebury, Treselbe, Bridwildene, Bradelaugh, Kyrton (i.e. Crediton), and Putworth in 1500 at Devonshire, England.2 Of Kingsbridge at Devonshire, England.3 John Gye sued, in chancery, John Bodley re lands in St. Sidwell's, Exeter, in 1515.3 He left a will on 26 March 1522; The Condition of the feoffment of the same date a dirge and masses were to be said on certain days for the souls of the persons named in the will. If the conditions not fulfilled, the named feoffees to stand seised of the lands to the use of John Gye and his heirs forever.
