Thomas LANKFORD and Mary COLLIER

Information from posts to LANGFORD-L by Kathy Newton

Husband: Thomas Lankford

LifeNotes: In 1753, he bought 375 acres of land in the co. of Isle of Wight, Newport Parish from a John Lankford. at the time of purchase, he recorded his residence as County of King & Queen, Stratford Manor Parish; this was the same as that of John Lankford, therefore, there is reason to suspect that they were related.

Later recordings show that Thomas was a resident to Isle of Wight, so he apparently moved from King & Queen Co. He may have lived in Isle of Wight for the rest of his life. It is apparent that he was able to acquire additional lands and a substantial amount of personal property. His reference to leaving son, Jesse, his largest Bible and 2 sermon books tells us that the family was apparently very religious, and that Thomas was very active in church affairs. The reference to sermon books suggests that he may have been a layman preacher.

Born: Assuming that he was 18 yrs of age at the time of his marriage, he would have been born abt 1705
