Windham County, Connecticut, Pictures

Here are a few picture from an old family album. This particular album held only thirteen pictures, and these are all the pictures of Windham County. I do not know who the photographer was for any of these pictures. As you will see, some of the pictures are somewhat warped. Click on the links below and use your back button to return to this page.

• General Putnam Monument, Brooklyn, Connecticut (155K)

• Elisha Lord House, Abington, Connecticut (183K)

• A Woodstock Collage (197K) Note on the back say: "Grandpa Tafts old homestead and surroundings." My grandmother (b. 1891) said in an interview in 1974 "...one of my earliest memories is going to the farmhouse that had been their home years and years ago. I was then a small child, but I remember vividly going to the house, and walking through the old place that was half tumbled down, and seeing in one doorway a small doorway, very low down, made for the cats to go in and out."

• Unknown house in winter (179K) This house may not be in Windham County or even Connecticut. Please let me know if you recognize it.

• Bible Illustration (256K) This is not a picture from the photo album. Instead it is the inside of the front cover of a Bible printed in 1760. David Hayward/Howard (1743-1822) was born in Ashford and lived in Woodstock. The Bible first belonged to David's father, Jonothan Hayward (1708-1782) of Ashford. The genealogical information in this Bible has been transcribed and can be found on the Ashford GenWeb site.
