George W. Boyd ~ Emily Cox  - Texas

George W. Boyd, a thrifty farmer of Fannin county, Texas, was born in Daviess county, Missouri, February 23, 1859, and is the son of George W. and Elizabeth (Hamlin) Boyd.  His father, a farmer, was born in Whitley county, Kentucky, and removed to Fannin county, Texas, in 1859, and died there in 1862.  His mother, born in Whitley county, Kentucky, died in Fannin county, in 1883.    G. W. Boyd is the youngest of a family of six children now living,  the others being: Mary A.,  Samuel,  Judith,  John and Elizabeth. Mr. Boyd moved to Fannin county with his parents in 1859,  has since continued to live there, having devoted his attention entirely to farming.  As a member of the Farmers' Alliance he labors with others, as well as individually, for the promotion of the interests of the class with which he is most closely identified.  To his own business he brings the most approved methods within his reach, and the excellent condition of his farm and its surroundings testifies to the energy,  skill and enterprise, with which his operations are conducted. On the 12th of February, 1887,  Mr. Boyd was married to Mrs. Emily Cox, daughter of William and Mary (Mathews) Shields.  William Shields,  son of Henry,  was born in Washington county, Tennessee, and died in Fannin county, Texas, in 1886.  Mrs. Mary (Mathews) Shields was born in Washington county, Tennessee, and died there.  Emily, their daughter, is the youngest of three children, the others being: Henry and Rebecca.  In March; 1865,  she married Hugh Cox, a farmer, who died in 1887. Mr. Boyd has been well prospered in his undertakings, and is now the owner of 1,700 acres of land.  He is enterprising and public-spirited, ready and willing to join in every movement calculated to promote the interests of the community. As a devout member of the Christian church,  his faith and his works go together.  Mr. Boyd possesses the esteem and confidence of all who know him and bears an unsullied reputation.
