COUNTDOWN
TO ELLIS ISLAND OPENING
====================================================
On 17 April, The American
Family Immigration History Center will open
on Ellis Island, to great
fanfare. Genealogists all over will be
logging in to search the newly
created database of passenger arrival
records of 17 million people
who immigrated through the port of New
York from 1892-1924.
Ellis Island stands as one
of the most prominent and recognized
symbols of American immigration,
with around 5,000 visitors a day
walking through the same halls
that many of our ancestors passed
through so many years ago.
To celebrate this historic
opening, Ancestry.com will be featuring
articles and Web pages to
help you locate your immigrant ancestors.
Look for articles to help
you get the most from passenger arrival
records, and take you beyond
Ellis Island to follow up with other
resources. For those who are
unable to locate their ancestors in
passenger arrival records,
we will look at alternative sources.
Stay tuned for all the latest
information on the events planned.
