Peter Rucker

1. Peter Rucker b. abt 1668, Europe, m. abt 1700, Elizabeth Fielding, (daughter of Edward Fielding) d. -   -1752, Culpeper Co., Virginia.  Peter died -   -1743, Orange Co., Virginia.  Peter immigrated to America c 1690, settled in Essex Co., Virginia. He later moved to Spotsylvania Co., where their son, John Rucker purchased land for them.  Spotsylvania Co., became Orange Co., in 1734, in 1748 became Culpeper, and in 1793 became Madison.  May have been born in Alsace which was a part of France at the time, but the name is of German origin.  His will is dated 18-Jan-1742/43, Orange Co., VA Will Book 1, page 299.  He was naturalized with a group of Huguenots on 08-May-1704.

He was sworn to his military commission of Captain for Orange Co. 22-May-1740.

Morris, Illinois, buried: Orleans Cemetery.  Joshua died 02-Dec-1878, Appanoose Co., Iowa, buried: Orleans Cemetery.  In 1830, Joshua moved his large family, by wagon, and traveled north.  The men walking the entire distance and the women riding.  Isiah often told of how he carried an axe over his shoulder to blaze a trail and a gun to furnish game for the family to eat.  Soon after they reached Springfield, Illinois, Nancy, the mother died.  The children were reared in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Hoffman.

    28. ii Isaiah Rucker b. -Oct-1814, Adair Co, Kentucky,d. 09-May-1913, Polo, Ogle Co., Illinois.  In 1834, Isaiah became a stage driver,  He drove a stage pulled by four fiery steeds.  For three years, he made the long tedious trips between Springfield and what was then Dixons' Ferry, now Dixon, Illinois.  He was then hired to drive a stage from Dixon to Galena and Elizabeth in Jo Davies, Co., Illinois. Indians abounded in this section and many of them entertained a warm affection for this stage driver.  Moved to Ogle Co., Illinois in 1833 and ran stage until 1837. Enlisted in the Black Hawk War but never called to action.

Illinois.  In 1850 he came to Iowa and bought 35 acres.  Then went to Ness Co., Kansas and farmed for 3 years and "starved out" (according to Oscar Rucker, son of Hammon).  In 1853 he married Hannah Ellis of New York and came to Appanoose, Co., Iowa where his brother Milton had moved between 1848 and 1851 perhaps in 1850 when James Robert first came to Iowa.  Occupation: Agriculture, Farmer, Schoolboard President, & Road Supervisor.
