Arthur McGaughey (1736) presided over the first court in Shelby County established 15 Oct 1792, and was eventually appointed a circuit court judge by the governor of Kentucky. He remained in this position until his death in 1812. William McGaughey (1740) was a soldier in the American Revolution. William McGaughey (1740) settled in Shelbyville KY, ran a general store there and eventually migrated to Maury TN about 1815. Arthur McGaughey (1768) purchased a farm in Anderson Co KY after his marrige in 1799 to Elizabeth Thompson. John McGaughey (1756) served in the Bedford County PA militia. John McGaughey (1756) opened the first tavern in Shelbyville KY in the early 1800's. Edward Wilson McGaughey had a sickle making business with his brother, Arthur, in Shelbyville KY in the early 1800's. Edward Wilson McGaughey later became an Indiana congressman.
