ALLARD, Louis A.

Louis A. Allard, 74, of Old Monson Rd., Stafford Springs, died Wednesday, (December 1, 1999) at St.Francis Hospital, Hartford. He was born in Stafford Springs, son of the late Louis and Elsie (Belcher) Allard, and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre & European Theatre as a motor machinist mate second class. He retired after 40 years of service from the Monson Road Garage in Stafford Springs. He was a member of the First Universalist Church of Stafford and Harley Owners Group Association. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Arlene (Davis) Allard; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Shirley D. Allard; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen A. and David C. Campbell; four grandchildren, Tyler and Kelsey Campbell; Kristin and Robert Allard; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Gilbert Wagner, all of Stafford Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, David Allard. The funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2 p.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs. Burial will follow in Stafford Springs Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 253 E. ANGUS, Hildegarde K., Lt. Col.

Lt. Col. Hildegarde Kuehdorf Angus, 80, of Sun City, AZ, died Monday (November 1, 1999) at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City. Mrs. Angus was retired from the U.S. Air Force as Lt. Colonel. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kuehdorf, formerly of South Hadley and Hyannis, MA, and a graduate of Holyoke High School, Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Vermont. She served for four and a half years with the Yale Medical Unit in the South Pacific Campaign during World War II, and following the war remained as head of Hospital Training Units for the Air Force Western Command, retiring in 1970 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Lt. Col. Angus and her husband, Wendell R. Angus, moved from California to Sun City, AZ in 1970, where she remained active in community activities. Her only survivors are a sister, Elisabeth K. Prentice of Mystic; and a niece, Lois Eaton of Harwich Port, MA. Interment services at the Village Cemetery in South Hadley Falls, MA are incomplete.

ARMELIN, Allen A.

Allen A. Armelin, 65, of Willington Avenue, Stafford Springs, died Thursday (November 11, 1999) at his home. He was born in Stafford Springs, son of the late Aldo and Elizabeth (Bolieau) Armelin. He was a U. S. Army veteran and was a retired highway maintainer for the State of Conn. Department of Transportation after 23 years of service. Allen was a member of St. Edward Parish, 40 year member of the Stafford Springs Fire Department where he was Secretary and Historian and Author of Torrent Fire Engine Company No. 1 (History of the Stafford Springs Fire Dept.), Stafford Fire Dept. No. 1, West Stafford Fire Dept. and the Fire-Police of all the departments and The Italian Benefit Society. Allen is survived by his loving wife of 42 years of marriage Loretta (Rancourt) Armelin of Stafford Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Trisha Armelin of Manchester, NH; two brothers, Raymond Armelin of Stafford Springs; Richard Armelin of Ellington; a sister, Nancy McMullin of Stafford Springs; an Aunt, Uncle and several Nieces, nephews and Cousins. A funeral will be held Monday, 9 a.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs. ARMSTRONG, Josephine M.

STAFFORD SPRINGS

Josephine M. Armstrong, 98, of Stafford Springs, was summoned by our Father Wednesday (March 24, 1999) at home. She was born the daughter of Joseph J. and Mary E. (Fischer) Braun, in Glen Falls, NY, in Dec. 1900, and moved to Stafford Springs in 1906. She graduated from Stafford High School, Class of 1918, worked at Stafford Conservatories from 1913-1965, as well as at the Rhode Island Worsted Co. during the late teens, and at Hartford Electric Light during the 20's. She was a member of the American Red Cross Ambulance Unit during World War II, and was also a member of St. Edward's Church and Ladies Guild. While she was president of the Ladies Guild in 1972, she was instrumental in the formation of what is presently the Stafford Community Area Thrift Shop. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Bernhard M. in 1991, and all of her five brothers and six sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Bernice L. Armstrong, of Stafford Springs; three sons, Herbert E. Armstrong of West Suffield, Bernhard E. Armstrong of Stafford Springs and Glenn F. Armstrong of Syracuse, NY, 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at St. Edward's Church, 57 High St., Stafford Springs. Burial will be at West Stafford Cemetery. BASTOLLA, Sophie L.

STAFFORD SPRINGS

Sophie L. Bastolla, 81, formerly of Stafford Springs, and SW Lantern Ave., Port Saint Lucie, FL, died Sunday, (March 14, 1999) at Eastbrooke Gardens, Casselberry, FL. She was the widow of the late Edward J. Bastolla who died on April 4, 1978. She was born in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Alexander and Anna (Kulbacka) Halko. She was a retired assembly worker at the AMF CUNO Corp. Sophie is survived by two daughters, Beverly Ann Hatch of Port St. Lucie, FL; and Jane M. Haum of Winter Springs, FL; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three brothers; three sisters, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 20, at 12 Noon in St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery. BEAULIEU, Dorothy

Dorothy Beaulieu, 67, formerly of Furnace Avenue, Stafford Springs, died Friday (April 9) at her daughter's home in Gansevoort, NY. She was born in Vernon and lived in Stafford for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Beaulieu, in 1994. Dorothy is survived by a son, Reno Beaulieu of Iowa; three daughters, Mary Kolher of New York, Lila Mizzelli and Beverly Crockett, both of North Carolina; three brothers, Francis Miner of Enfield, Raymond Miner of Rockville, Donald Miner of Maine; a sister, Charlene Skidgell, also of Maine; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 13, 11 a.m., at Tocchetti Funeral Home, 132 West Main St., Stafford Springs. Burial will follow the service in St. Edward Cemetery. Florence E. Beverage, 83, of Park St., Stafford Springs died Thursday (April 8, 1999) at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs, with her family by her side. She was born in North Haven, ME, daughter of the late Corydon S. and Florence A. (Dole) Brown. She was a retired burr bench worker at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 25 years of service. Florence is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore E. and Jean B. Beverage, Jr. of Stafford Springs; James C. and Carol A. Beverage of Stafford Springs; John W. and Elizabeth K. Beverage of Tolland; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara L. and Robert C. McGill of Enfield; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, John B. Brown of North Haven, ME; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Theodore E. Beverage, Sr. on May 21, 1965; two grandsons, Mark A. Beverage on January 4, 1972; and Timothy J. Beverage on September 8, 1982. Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 11, 1999, 2 p.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs with the Rev. Sharon Miesel officiating. Otto J. Bolduan, 69, of Stafford Springs, died Sunday, (July 18,1999) at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. He was born in Queens, NY, son of the late Erwin and Eva (Hartmann) Bolduan. He was a retired teacher at Somers High School in the Chemistry and Physics department after 31 years of service. Otto was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Stafford at West Stafford, past master and member of both the Wolcott Lodge #60 A.F. and A.M., and Ionic Lodge #110 A.F. and A.M., member of the Orient Chapter #42 R.A.M. and a former assessor for the Town of Stafford. Otto is survived by a life partner of 20 years Paul W. "Butch" Babcock, Jr. of Stafford Springs; two very special friends, Shirley and Peter Jefferson of West Hartford; and a large extended family and friends. There will be a gathering Friday, July 23, 3 p.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church of Stafford at West Stafford, 197 West Stafford Rd., Stafford Springs, with the Rev. Elizabeth G. Braun, 83, of East Main Street, Stafford Springs, died Monday, (October 4, 1999) at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. She was the widow of the late Edward C. Braun who died on April 3, 1972. She was born in Stafford Springs, daughter of the late Walter and Eva (Roberts) Greaves. She graduated from Willimantic State Teachers College, taught a brief period of time in the elementary school level, and was a member of St. Edward Parish. Elizabeth is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Meredith Braun, two grandchildren, Jeff and Julie Braun, all of Stafford Springs; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Francis Greaves on September 6, 1979. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at 10 a.m. in St. Edward Church, High Street, Stafford Springs. Mary E. Bruzzi, 88, of Hopyard Rd., Stafford Springs, died Thursday, (April 22, 1999) at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. She was born in Stafford Springs, daughter of the late Mario and Dominica (Festi) Sartori. She was a communicant of St. Edward Parish, St. Edward Ladies Guild, Court Isabella # 785 Catholic Daughters of America, The Mission Group and Honorary Life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian Benefit Society. Mary is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Louis M. and Carol J. Bruzzi of Stafford Springs; George A. and Alice L Bruzzi of Farmington; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Bartholomew Joseph (Louie) Bruzzi, who died on March 28, 1973 and a brother, Philip Sartori who died in 1991. CALCHERA, Mildred L.

Mildred L. Calchera 94, formally of Chestnut Hill Rd. Stafford Springs, died Thursday (December 16, 1999) with her family at her side. She was born in West Stafford, daughter of the late Charles and Nettie (Kibbe) Glazier. Mrs. Calchera was a well known professional organist and choir director for over 50 years in many area churches. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Stafford at West Stafford where she was the choir director and organist and also was a member of the Women's Council, active member of the American Guild of Organist, Stafford Historical Society and had earned over 1000 hours as a volunteer at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Mildred is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, former State Representative Renato B. ''Bige'' Calchera of Stafford Springs; two daughters Joyce Robinson of Voorhesville, NY; Janice Chynoweth of Marcellus, NY; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother Leonard Glazier of FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mildred C. Cambria, 72, formerly of Willington and Stafford Springs, died Friday (July 30, 1999) at Jupiter Medical Center, Jupiter, FL. She was the widow of the late Armond J. Cambria, who died Feb. 21, 1989. She was born in Englewood, NJ, daughter of the late Aniello and Raphael (Viano) Grasso, and lived in Willington and Stafford Springs for 17 years before moving to Florida five years ago. She was a former member of St. Edward Parish and the Willington Senior Center. Mildred is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Heidi Cambria of Plimpton, MA; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Edward Cronin of Acworth, GA; five grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Grasso of Florida; two sisters, Florence Hanley of Florida, and Caroline D'Anna of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. Florence Harmon Cooley, 97, of East Street, Stafford Springs, died Sunday (April 25, 1999) at Parkway Pavilion, Enfield. She was born in Holland, MA, daughter of the late Eugene and Orianna (Belcher) Young. She was a retired weaver at the former Cyril Johnson Woolen Co., after 40 years of service and was a member of the Staffordville Congregational Church, Stafford Grange No. 1, Ladies Auxiliary of the Strazza, Tonoli-Emhoff Post No. 26 American Legion. Florence is survived by a son, Russell I. Harmon of Stafford Springs; two step-sons, Michael Cooley of East Longmeadow, MA, Richard Cooley of Eastford; four step-daughters, Doris Sanger of Staffordville, Winifred Reynolds, Jean DuPont and Olive Cooley, all of Stafford Springs, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Myron Carl Davis, 86, of Crystal Lake Rd., Stafford Springs, died Tuesday (March 2, 1999) at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs. He was born in Stafford Springs, son of the late Myron F. and Edith (Bradway) Davis. He graduated from Stafford High School and attended the University of Mass. in Amherst, MA, where he earned his Masters Degree. During World War II he was a food inspector for the US Government and then retired from Railway Express after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Stafford at West Stafford, Honorary Life Member of the West Stafford Fire Department and the Wolcott Lodge No. 60 A.F. and A.M. of Stafford. Myron is survived by a brother, Emerson Davis of Stafford Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sophie DeAndrade, 93, formally of Fox Run, Stafford Springs died Thursday, (September 30, 1999) at a local nursing home. She was the widow of the late Manuel DeAndrade who died in 1967. She was born in Westport, MA, daughter of the late John G. and Mary (Cieto) Perry. Sophie is survived by a daughter, Lillian Ferris of Wales, MA; two grandsons, David Andrews of Westport, MA and Anthony Ferris of Stafford Springs; three granddaughters, Judith Csekovsky of Enfield, Christine Bryan of East Hartford and Barbara Schneider of Woodbury, MN; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, 8:30 a.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs. DeCARLI, Frances

STAFFORD SPRINGS AND WEST HARTFORD

Frances DeCarli, 89, of Orcuttville Rd., Stafford Springs, died Tuesday, (October 5, 1999) at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was born in North Haven, and made her home in West Hartford with her sister, Mary DeCarli, until 1995, when they both came to make their home with their brother. Frances was an avid Red Sox fan, and was looking forward to October this year. Before her retirement, some 25 years ago, she was employed at Aetna Ins. Co., Hartford, and was active in many of their clubs. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary in 1997. Frances is survived by her two brothers, Fred DeCarli of Stafford; and Comelio DeCarli of Manchester; several nieces and nephews; and many friends in the Hartford area. Funeral services wil be TODAY, 11 a.m. at Tocchetti Funeral Home, 132 West Main St., Stafford Springs. Burial will follow at St. Edward Cemetery. There are no calling hours. DELMONICO, Evalyn R.

Evalyn R. Delmonico, 82, of West Hartford, and formerly of Stafford Springs, died Sunday (November 14, 1999), at a local convalescent home. Born in New Haven, the daughter of the late Albert and Rose (Dest) Delmonico, she made her home in West Hartford since 1946. Miss. Delmonico was employed by Gilman's Dress Shop in West Hartford as an assistant buyer and while living in Stafford Springs worked as an assistant pharmacist in her father's drug store. She was a communicant of the Church of St. Timothy. She is survived by her two sisters, Alberta Delmonico of West Hartford, Chocky McGillicuddy of Plantsville; two nieces, Gina Gromak, Robin Wynkoop; and a nephew, Shon McGillicuddy and his wife Angie. He was born in Stafford Springs, son of the late Herbert and Ruth (Tompkins) Ellis, and was educated in the local schools. He was a member of the Apostle Church of Enfield, an avid fisherman, softball player and Red Sox fan. Jack is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard D. and Robin T. Edward R. Faber, formerly of Manchester, died Sunday (July 25, 1999) in Stafford Springs. He was born in Glastonbury, and was a 1930 graduate of Glastonbury High School. He was a volunteer fireman at the Glastonbury Station, from which he received a commendation for bravery. He had been a musician with the Ray Henry Polka Band for many years, playing the clarinet and saxophone. He was also retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft since 1974. He was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Stafford Springs. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, his wife, Winifred; his brother, William J. Faber and his spouse, Ida; his five children, Jeanne F. Calamore of North Palm Beach, FL, Edward J. Faber and his wife, Connie, Katharine Faber of Friendship, ME, Martin A. Faber and his wife, Therese of Stafford Springs, Ralph A. Faber and his spouse, Tina; and 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Tom Cordier, Jeanne Beth Willett, James P. Grace H. Ford, 91, of Deepwood Dr., Stafford Springs, died Tuesday, (May 18, 1999) at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs. She was born on Feb. 26, 1908, eldest child of Ernest and Lena (Shaw) Hale. Grace lived in Monson, MA until she married Ralph Ford in 1936 and moved to the Orcuttville section of Stafford Springs. She met her husband-to-be through her life-long friend, Julia, who married Ralph's cousin, Alonzo Spellman. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Ralph predeceased his wife in 1990. She retired from the Warren Woolen Co. where she worked for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stafford and belonged to the Climax Chapter No. 98 Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid bowler, loved crossword puzzles and knitting various items like blankets, gloves, etc., and was loved by everyone who knew her. Grace is survived by two sons, Donald Hale Ford and his wife Gladys of Parker, CO, Charles Ralph Ford of Stafford, and Donna A. Ford of Suffield; six grandchildren, Jana, Charles Jr., Lynda, Matthew, Daniel and Grace; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Lois Brisette of Belchertown, MA, with whom she shared a common birthday, nine years apart; a brother, Charles Hale of Palmer, MA; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Ernest, and three sisters, Ruth, Lillian and Elaine. Stella is survived by a host of dear friends who will truly miss her loving personality, sense of humor, and heart of gold. James A. Kulas, 60, of Galbraith Road, Somers, beloved husband of Charlotte (LeBlanc) Kulas of thirty-seven years, passed away Monday, (October 18, 1999) with his family by his side in Manchester Memorial Hospital. Jim was born May 30, 1930 in Stafford Springs, and was a lifelong resident of Somers. He attended Rockville High School, and was an Air Force veteran. He was a welding inspector for the Massachusetts Highway Department. Jim and his wife spent many happy times going polka dancing and fishing and Jim was a member of the Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Besides his wife he leaves a son and his wife, Kent D. and Debra Kulas of Monson, MA; three daughters, Karen A. and her husband, Richard McQuaid, Laurie B. and Russell Gall of Stafford and Kristen L. Kulas of Hollywood, FL; a brother, Joseph Kulas of Springfield, MA; a sister, Constance Marini of Agawam, MA; and six grandchildren, Jaimie, Courtney and Cameron Kulas, Ashley and Ryan Gall, and Colin McQuaid. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Felicia (Sobinski) Kulas, a brother, Theodore Kulas and a sister, Beatrice Simborski. James P. Long, 79, of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Stafford Springs, husband of Alice P. (Mason) Long, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Manchester on Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) with his family at his side. Born December 5, 1919 in Stafford Springs, son of the late Alfred and Ada (Pritchard) Long, he had been a resident of Florida since 1976. Mr. Long was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed with the AMF Cuno Company of Stafford Springs for over 25 years until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Tabernacle Church in Sarasota, FL for many years. Besides his loving wife Alice, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy C. and James McCavanagh of Manchester; a sister, Mae Hill of Clearwater, FL; five grandchildren, Kari, Jamie, and Sean McCavanagh and Melanie and Eric Long; two great grandchildren, Charles Wilson III and Ariel Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. O'Neil Council No. 1395 Knights of Columbus, corporator of the Johnson Memorial Hospital Corporation, charter member of the Conn. Greenhouse Growers Assoc., Tolland County Farm Bureau, past president of the Stafford Rotary Club, and past president of the North American Horticultural Suppliers Assoc. William is survived by his loving wife of 44 years of marriage, Jeanne (Rice) Milikowski of Stafford Springs; six children, Karen Ann Milikowski of Somers; Krista M. Silva and her husband Anthony of Palmer, MA; Mark W. Milikowski and his wife Robin of Somers; Michael B. Milikowski and his wife Joann of Stafford; Mary E. Joseph Miranda, 82, of Swamp Road, Coventry, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford. He was born in New Bedford, MA, son of the late Cesar and Maria (Gouevia) Miranda. He was a retired maintenance worker at Kurtz Bros., Manchester, and was a member of St. Mary Parish, Coventry, and an honorary life member of The Feast of Blessed Sacrament of New Bedford, MA. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Corriea and Hilda Bernado. NAGY, Richard S.

MANSFIELD AND STAFFORD SPRINGS

Richard S. Nagy, 60, of Echo Dr., Mansfield, died Saturday, (October 23, 1999) at his home. He was born Jan. 23, 1939 in New York, NY, the son of the late Charles and Florence (Voorhis) Nagy. Mr. Nagy graduated from Eastern Connecticut University in 1961, with a BS in Education. He started his teaching career in October 1961 in the Mansfield school system. He taught in the middle school from 1969 until his retirement three years ago. He taught Social Studies at all grade levels during his career. He received his Masters of Education from Eastern Connecticut University. Dick taught the gifted and talented children at the middle school, he was the curriculm convenor for the Social Studies Curriculm Counsel for many years; he was the team leader for the 5th and 8th grade teams as well. For several years, Mr. Nagy chaperoned and organized student trips to Washington, DC during the April vacation. During his 35 year career, Mr. Nagy taught approximately 3,000 of Mansfield's children. They were the recipients his professional expertise and love for the teaching profession. Dick was highly respected by his co-workers, students and faculty members. He especially enjoyed sharing his love for creative writing and was regularly sought out for his expertise. He was a member of the National Education Association, The Connecticut Teacher Education Association and the Mansfield Education Association. He also participated in many community activities as well as honoring his hertiage as president of the Ashford Hungarian Social Club. Dick was respected and cherished by many friends and students; but his love for animals was always apparent by his affection for his two dogs and three Kitty Angels. He is survived by two brothers, Ronald of Stafford Springs; and Roger of Alfred, ME; and several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of love, honor and respect to those who shared his life. He will be forever in the hearts of his family, friends and his lifelong sweetheart, Barbara. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195, 1/2 mile south of Rte. 6 bypass), Willimantic, with the Rev. Kenneth Ferguson officiating. Michael Nogas, 91, of Latham Road, Willington, husband of the late Dorothy (White) Nogas, died Wednesday, (July 28, 1999) at the Windham Hospital. He was born Jan. 2, 1908 in Poland and was a Willington resident for most of his life. He had been employed as a machinist by Pratt & Whitney in West Hartford and was a member of the Ukrainian National Home, North Windham. He is survived by a son, Michael of Willington; two granddaughters, Barbara Rago of South Windsor; and Kristeen Tracey of Vernon; five great grandchildren; and a nephew, Walter Movchuk of Windsor. Mary Perko, 84, formerly of West St. Avery Park, Stafford Springs, passed on peacefully after a lengthy illness Wednesday, (December 29, 1999) at Woodlake at Tolland, Tolland. She was the widow of the late George Perko who died on April 22, 1977. She was born in Willington, daughter of the late John and Amelia (Molych) Janiak. She was a retired inspector at the former Stafford Printers after 15 years of service, and a member of St. Edward Parish and the Stafford Golden Age Club. Mary is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce E. and James R. Kuzemchak of South Windsor; two grandchildren, Kevin M. Kuzemchak and Lynn M. Kuzemchak; and several nieces and nephews. Mary will always be remembered for her many smiles and her love of life. After retiring he was employed at B & M Garage and Stafford Motor Speedway as a VIP gate attendant and was an avid race car fan. He was a member of St. Edward Parish, Italian Benefit Society and the Stafford Fish and Game Club. Rackham, Frieda was born in Stafford Springs, daughter of the late Max H. and Lettie (Schneider) Turschman. She attended local schools, graduate of Stafford High School with Honors, graduate of Teacher Training at Bay Path Institute, Springfield, MA, and was a commercial teacher of over 20 years in the Ansonia High School, Ansonia. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Stafford at West Stafford, Stafford Springs, a former member of the Ansonia Congregational Church, Ansonia, a 71 year member of the Grange, Past District Deputy President of Ells-Wood Rebekah Lodge IOOF, State Chaplain of Conn., Rebekah Assembly, served the Conn. Eye Bank for over 10 years, Baker Chapter #74 O.E.S. and the Stafford Golden Age Club. Frieda is survived by a brother Frederick Turschmann of Staffordville and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother George Turschmann; and a sister Lillian Theising. RUGEN, Richard Longstreet

STAFFORD SPRINGS AND LONGBOAT KEY, FL

Richard Longstreet Rugen, 78, of Longboat Key, FL, and Charlestown, RI, died Friday (April 23, 1999), in Sarasota, FL. He had been a longtime resident of Stafford Springs. The son of the late Louis C. Rugen and Anna (Van der Veer) Rugen, Dick graduated from Plainfield High School, in New Jersey, Worcester Academy, in Worcester, MA., Dartmouth College, class of 1942, Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering, and Lowell Textile Institute, in Massachusetts. An engineer at Curtiss-Wright Aircraft, in St. Louis, MO, Dick designed components for military aircraft during World War II. Following employment with Ernst & Ernst, in Boston, MA, as a manufacturing consultant, he joined The Warren Woolen Company in Stafford Springs. In his 34 years, with the company, 1946-1980, he served successively as assistant superintendent, superintendent, and president. After retirement, he continued as a board member and consultant. Dick served on the boards of Johnson Memorial Hospital, in Stafford Springs, the Connecticut State Hospital Association, the Stafford Savings Bank, the Stafford Springs branch of The Connecticut Bank and Trust Company, and the Stafford Boys Club. Athletically active all his life, Dick particularly enjoyed golf, tennis, and motorcycling. Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy (Valentine) Rugen; a son, Sanford L. Rugen of Stafford Springs; a son, James S. Rugen, and daughter-in-law, Nancy B. Rugen, of Windsor; and a daughter, Kate V. Rugen of Stonington. Predeceased by a sister, Alice (Rugen) Howe; and a brother, Carl E. Rugen, he is survived by brothers, David V. Rugen of St. Petersburg, FL; Robert C. Rugen of Chapel Hill, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Services will be private. Wallace A. Schiffer, 84, of stafford, husband of Edna (Larson) Schiffer, died Saturday, (December 4, 1999) at Rocky Hill veterans Hospital. He was born in Meriden on February 8, 1915 son of the late Henry and Frieda (Funke) Schiffer and had lived in East Longmeadow, MA and then resided for most of his adult life in Stafford. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. Prior to his retirement he worked in the Sales Department at Diamond International Corporation for over 40 years. he was a graduate of Baypath Junior College, a member of Elks Lodge #1849 in Chicopee, MA, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in East Longmeadow, MA. Besides his wife, Mr. Schiffer is survived by a daughter, Elaine S. Crockett of Manchester; a son, Donald P. Schiffer of North Hinsdale, NY; two grandchildren, Jordan Schiffer of North Hinsdale, NY and Kimberly Crockett and her fiance, Raymond Petraska of Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry Schiffer Jr. and Carolee Schiffer of Cheshire; a brother-in-law, John Larson and his wife, Henrietta of Deep River; a sister-in-law, Mable Nilson of East Longmeadow, MA; and several nieces and nephews. No. 1 of Staffordville, and former Boy Scout Leader of Troop No. 50 of Staffordville. Margaret and Mike owned and operated the Old Carpenter Shop for over 25 years. She was a former treasurer of the Universalist Church in Stafford Hollow and past member of the Pioneer Valley Antique Auto Club. Margaret is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Kuchinsky of Willington; a brother, Richard Shaffer of Stafford Springs; two sister-in-laws, Nora Shaffer of Stafford Springs, Ida Shaffer of Brookfield, MA; a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Shirley Taylor of Feeding Hills, MA; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. TROMBLY, Marilyn F.

Marilyn F. Trombly, 73, formerly of Tolland Turnpike, Willington, died Tuesday, (July 13, 1999) at Hartford Hospital, Hartford. She was born in Stafford, daughter of the late Alexander I. and Rose (Daigle) Trombly. She attended local schools retired from G. Fox & Co. and lived in Willington for many years before moving to Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs, after very physically debilitating strokes. She had a great love for reading, cross word puzzles, needle work and enjoyed television. Marilyn is survived by several cousins and many dear friends at Evergreen, especially Ingrid Hohn, who all gave constant caring, love and support for many years. Funeral will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs. USHER, Leonard

STAFFORD

Leonard Usher, 85, of Old Stafford Rd., died Sunday (March 21, 1999), at Rockville General Hospital. He was born in Stafford and moved to Tolland as a boy. He was employed at LaPointe Industries in Rockville before his retirement in the early 1970s. Lenoard was predeceased by his wife Joyce (Kibbe) Usher, 8-18-1995, and a son Ronald. He was an avid nature lover, especially birds and all natural things. He was a loving father, and grandfather who leaves a daughter, Diane Clifford of Tolland; three sons, Richard Usher of Enfield, David Usher and James Usher both of Tolland; nine grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Marshal Usher of Monson, MA.; a sister, Myrtle LaGrange of Enfield; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the I.C.U. Unit, of Rockville General Hospital for all their support. VERLIK, Richard F.

STAFFORD SPRINGS AND HARWICH

Richard F. Verlik, 44, of Harwich, MA, and formerly of Stafford Springs, died on Thursday (July 8, 1999) at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, MA. Born in Springfield, MA on October 24, 1954, he is the son of Barbara Y. Verlik of Harwichport, MA and the late Robert J. Verlik, Sr. He is survived by his loving companion, Jacqueline Terry; her two sons, Randy Hubert and Zachery Terry; a sister, Jacqueline Doyle of San Francisco, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Jr. and Jo- Ann Verlik of Stafford Springs; two nieces, Michelle Doyle of Portland, ME and Rachel Verlik of Alexandria, VA; and a nephew, Sean Verlik, USMC of Camp Lejeune, NC. He graduated from Stafford High School and attended American International College, Springfield, MA. Rick was an avid sportsman and enjoyed skiing, cross-country running, field and track, hunting, and fishing. He was an accomplished sports fisherman, and for many years owned and captained the "Seahunter", a commercial fishing vessel out of Harwichport, MA. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. VOGEL, Shelly A.

STAFFORD SPRINGS

Shelly A. Vogel, 43, of Minor Rd., Stafford Springs, died Saturday (October 2, 1999) at Rockville General Hospital, Rockville. She was born in Stafford Springs, educated in the local schools, and worked at Mansfield State Training School for 13 years, and was a medic for 11 years for the Department of Corrections, State of CT. Shelly was a member of the Executive Board, Union Steward and former secretary of A.F.S.C.M.E. Local No. 391, and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian Benefit Society. Shelly is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, William W. (Billy-Snake) Hoering of Stafford Springs; her parents, Ronald W. and Dorothy M. (Koniar) Vogel of Stafford Springs; paternal grandmother, Louise Vogel of Tolland; a son, Hans Hoering of Stafford Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Randolph W. and Nancy L. Vogel of Willington; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda M. and Richard E. Baker of Stafford Springs; two nephews, Eric and Sean Vogel of Willington; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends. Shelly also leaves her beloved pet dogs, Mandy & Mocha. WARREN, Alexander

Alexander Warren, 82, of Colburn Road, Staffordville, died Saturday (December 11, 1999) shortly after having entered Woodlake at Tolland. He was born in Springfield, MA, and was a lifelong resident of Stafford. His wife, Dorothy Mae Staples Warren, predeceased him on January 20, 1968. He retired in 1975 from United Technologies, where he was employed for 30 years as a foreman in the Inspection Dept. Al was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was an avid water skier and enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying. He survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Joyce and Rudolph Mahdalik of Stafford Springs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Arthur Staples and Linda Warren of Chesterfield County, VA, and Bruce C. Warren of Staffordville; a sister, Josephine Cambio at Blair Manor, Enfield; a very dear friend, Jane O. Irish of Staffordville; three grandchildren, Alana Mahdalik Pilcher and her husband, Marc of North Stonington, McCullough Lee Warren, Arthur Warren Jr. and his wife, Carissa; and a great-granddaughter, Keeli-Shae Alexis, all of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. Claire M. West, 72, of East St. Staffordville, died Monday (August 23, 1999) at Johnson Memorial Hospital Stafford Springs. She was the widow of the late Wilmar Welsh West who died on Aug. 15, 1997. She was born in Stafford Springs, daughter of the late Attilio R. & Mildred (McLagan) Frassinelli. She retired in May of 1985 as Postmaster of the Staffordville Post Office, Staffordville. She was a charter member of the Stafford Historical Society, Past President & Charter member of the Stafford Fire Dept. No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary of Staffordville, Former Girl Scout Leader in Staffordville, Stafford's 250 Bi-Centennial Committee Member, Teachers Aide in the Borough Elementary School and the Staffordville Elementary School. Claire is survived by a son, Jeffrey A. West of Staffordville; Four Daughters and Sons-in-Laws, Donna L. Ference of Stafford Springs; Diane D. West and Barry Greika of Stafford Springs; Wendy C. West and Mark Price of Staffordville; Debra A. and Guy Martorelli of Stafford Springs; seven grandchildren, Alan Ference, Jill Ference, Beth Syphers, Koren Madden, Heather West, Nichole Martorelli , Marissa Martorelli; two Great Grandsons, Joshua and Sean Ference; a Brother, and two Sisters-in-Laws, Gordon J. and Barbara Frassinelli, Sr.; Carole Frassinelli; two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Nancy and Richard Bilyak; Virginia and Richard Pisciotta all of Stafford Springs; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. WHITE, Orrin Charles

MANCHESTER AND STAFFORD SPRINGS

Orrin Charles White, 63, of Manchester, devoted husband of Jane MacLagan White for 44 years, entered into eternal rest on Friday (September 3, 1999). He was born on Feb. 23, 1936 in Stafford Springs to Ernest and Grace White. He attended Rockville Schools and Cheney Technical School in Manchester. He resided in Manchester most of his adult life where he was employed at Personalized Floors for 27 years and A. Raymond Zerio & Sons for the past 18 years as a floor and wall covering craftsman. Left to mourn his passing, in addition to his beloved wife, are his loving daughters and sons-in- laws, Kathy and Richard Seaburg of Madison and Cindy and Richard Marr of Stafford Springs. He was a caring and proud ''Poppie'' to his five cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan and Justin Marr and Erik and Kara Seaburg. He also leaves two brothers, Donald F. Denley and Edward R. White, both of Manchester; and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Sontag and Cora Chase. Orrin was a kind and sincere friend to everyone and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The funeral will he held on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m., at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., in St. Edward Church, 55 High St., Stafford Springs. WITT, Ruth (Gildemeister)

Ruth (Gildemeister) Witt, 95, of Clearview Dr., Stafford Springs, died Tuesday, (August 10, 1999) at her home. Born in Bucklin, KS, she had been a resident of the Stafford Springs community since 1926. She was the widow of the late Earl M. Witt, who died on August 15, 1987. Ruth was a high school graduate and was a two year college graduate. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Stafford Womens Club and past president of the Historical Society of Stafford. She initiated the Stafford Adult Education Program at the Stafford High School in 1940. Ruth is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth E. and M. Kenneth French of Eastford, and Lucille I. and Wallace Goodhall of Union; one son and daughter- in-law, Allen E. and Patricia Witt of Lenoir, NC; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; a sister, Grace Regal of San Antonio, TX; and several nieces; nephews; and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs. The Rev. Richard Garland will officiate. Burial will follow in the Stafford Springs Cemetery. WOTRUBA, Frank M.

Frank M. Wotruba, 86, of Vance Dr. Bristol, died Wednesday (April 7, 1999) at the home of his son in Spring, TX. He was the widower of the late Mary (Becker) Wotruba who died on Jan. 26, 1999. He was born in Lena, WI, son of the late Frank S. and Mary (Oliverus) Wotruba. He was a retired button cutter and foreman at the former Parizek Button Factory in Willington, after 29 years of service and with his wife owned and operated Doralynn Restraunt on Rte. 19 in Stafford, for 12 years. Frank is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Lorraine Wotruba of Spring, TX; a daughter and son-in- law, Ellen and Richard Nelligan of Livingston, TX; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hour Friday, April 16, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edward Church High St., Stafford Springs, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery.

YOST, William

William Yost, 76, of Tucson, AZ, departed this life on Thursday, (October 28, 1999) in Tucson, AZ. He was born in Rockville and was educated in local schools. Bill entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was a crew chief on a B-24 Liberator in the European Theater with the 459th Bomber Group. He graduated from Cincinnati College of Arts and Science in 1948. He established the William Yost Funeral Home in Stafford Springs in 1949; he had also owned the G.H. Baker Furniture Store. While in Stafford, Bill was Past President of the Rotary Club, Past President of the Stafford Library Assoc., and Chairman of the Stafford Parks and Recreation Board. He also served as Chairman of the American Red Cross and was District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America. Bill sold the Funeral Home in 1971 to the now Tocchetti Funeral Home, and moved to Tucson, AZ in 1973. He served on staff at the Pathology Dept. of the University of Arizona Medical Hospital and Pima County Medical Examiner's Office until his retirement in 1987. He worked as a consultant for SCI Funeral Services in Tucson, AZ for the last few years. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. William Yost, Jr. and Mrs. Peggy Yost; a daughter, Ms. Barbara Yost; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jessica Rivera, Mrs. Amy Edberg and Mr. Tom Titus, all of Manchester. Memorial services will be held on Sat., Nov. 13, 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call one hour prior to the memorial. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. Lillian Zelinka, 87, of Skungamaug Rd., Tolland, formerly of Stafford Springs, died Saturday (August 28,1999) at Hartford Hospital. She was born in Winfield, Long Island, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Rose (Nemec) Phillips. She worked at the former B. Schwanda and Son's Button Factory where she was a machine operator and also worked at Dry Core Felt Co. as a supervisor. She was a member of the United Congregational Church of Tolland, Strazza, Tonoli-Emhoff Post No. 26 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and The American Legion International Ladies Auxiliary. Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 44 years of marriage, Nicholas Zelinka of Tolland; a son and daughter-in-law Robert F. and Wendy Klecak of Staffordville; three grandchildren, Robert M. Klecak, Heidi Klecak-Levy, and Nicholas I. KIecak; two great-grandchildren, Carli and Fallon Klecak; and several nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Klecak in August of 1944 during World War II; a brother, William Phillips; and a Sister, Henrietta Davis. ZELONKA, Helen J.

Helen J. Zelonka, 68, of Patten Rd., Stafford, died Thursday, (December 23, 1999) at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. She was born in Stafford, daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Kreydatus) Zelonka. She was a U.S. Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict and was a retired secretary at the J.J. Mottes Company in Stafford Springs. She was a member of St. Edward Parish and the V.F.W. No. 9990 of Stafford. Helen is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brady and Kathy Young; two granddaughters, Susan McKay and Dori Young; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Jordan McKay; three brothers, John Zelonka, Jacob Zelonka, Andrew Zelonka; two sisters, Anna Hurchala and Elizabeth Martorelli, all of Stafford Springs; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
