Irving W. Barry, Jr., 75, of Cedar Swamp Rd., Mansfield, husband of Priscilla (Kendall) Barry, died Tuesday, (February 1, 2000) at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was born June 23, 1924 in Willington, the son of the late Irving Barry, Sr. and Barbara (Schlehofer) Barry and was a lifelong Mansfield resident. He had been employed as the plant superintendent at Drycor Felt Co. in Stafford for many years and later worked part-time at the Goodwin Elementary School in Mansfield. He was a proud World War II Army veteran of the 5th Armored Division and was a Past Commander of VFW Post #9800, Mansfield. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Richard Barry of Ashford, Barbara Barry of Vernon, and Heidi Barry-Rodriguez of Parkland, FL; a brother, Richard, of Willimantic; four sisters, Helen Bernat of Storrs and Virginia McManus, Delores Gaudreau and Norma Catalano, all of Willimantic; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Woodward Cemetery, Rte. 44, Ashford, with the Rev. Ronald Baker officiating. A reception will follow the service at the home of Richard Barry, 278 Pumpkin Hill Rd., Ashford. There are no calling hours. Leo F. Beaupre, 85, formerly of West St. Avery Park, Stafford Springs, died Sunday, (January 23, 2000) at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. Leo was the widower of the late Alice Marie (Tardiff) Beaupre who died on Jan. 6, 1998. He was born in Connor, ME, son of the late Fred and Mary (Guerette) Beaupre. He was a retired machinist leadman at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 28 years of service and was a member of St. Edward Parish. Norman A. Biddle, 45, of Chestnut Street, Windsor Locks, died Saturday, (February 19, 2000) of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Ellington. Born in Waynesburg, PA, he was a former resident of Enfield and Stafford, moving to Windsor Locks this past year. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and was employed for Hobard Inc. Norm was a member of the Rockville Fish & Game Club and the National Rifle Assn. He is survived by two sons, William A. Biddle of Susun, CA, and Matthew J. Biddle at home; a daughter, Stephanie M. Biddle of Chandler, AZ; a brother, William E. and his wife, Barbara Biddle of Wilson, NC; a sister, Dora and her husband, Michael Helechu of Enfield; and a granddaughter, Kayla Mae Biddle. Ambrose Dante Bidorini, 89, of Stafford Springs, died Sunday (February 27, 2000) at Rockville General Hospital, Rockville. He was born in Dorchester, MA, son of the late Innocenti and Bambina (Muzzucelli) Bidorini. He was the former owner and operator of the former Stafford Refrigerator Sales & Service for 20 years and then retired from Hamilton Standard, division of U.T.C. as an experimental refrigeration technician after 22 years of service. Dante was a coach for the Stafford PeeWee Baseball League for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Stafford Grange No. 1. Dante is survived by his loving wife of 64 years of marriage, Edna K. Bidorini of Stafford Springs; a daughter, Patricia Bidorini of Stafford Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward K. and Margot Bidorini of Bethel Park, PA; a goodson/grandson, Kuhrt E. Bidorini and his wife Cynthia of Ellington; a granddaughter, Kim Struk and her husband Randolph of Pittsburg, PA; two great grandsons, Michael and Matthew Struk; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Earhardt Kolsch of Tolland; several nieces, nephews and many cousins. Josephine Bocash, 92, formerly of Gifford Avenue, Willimantic, died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at St. Joseph Living Center, Willimantic. She was the widow of the late Joseph W. Bocash who died on Sept. 7, 1990. She was born in Chaplin, daughter of the late Arthur and Sophie (Vine) Hubert. She was a retired clerk at Todd's Department Store for 11 years and W. T. Grants for 22 years. She was a member of St. Marys Parish in Willimantic. Josephine is survived by two daughters, Barbara Kolentik of Tennessee; Estelle Kolentik of Willimantic; a grandson, James Millerd; a granddaughter, Joann Dupont all of Willimantic; two great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. George B. Chappell, 98, and Catherine (Hogan) Chappell 93, husband and wife for 72 years, formerly of Enfield Street, Enfield, died peacefully within a few hours of each other on Friday, (March 31, 2000) at Evergreen Health Care. George was born in Manchester, England and was a longtime resident of the community, having been employed by Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co., Colt Firearms, Hamilton Standard Div. of U.T.C. and M.H. Rhodes, Inc. before retiring 25 years ago. Catherine was born in Suffield and lived in Enfield most of her life. They were communicants of St. Patrick Church. George and Catherine are survived by two sons, George T. Chappell of Stafford Springs, and Bruce M. Chappell of Enfield; two daughters, Mary E. Sarno and Joan C. Smilgys, both of Enfield; 12 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. They were predeceased by a son, John Donald Chappell, who died in 1986. George was also predeceased by two brothers, Cecil and Gordon Chappell; and two sisters, Anna and Rebecca Chappell. Catherine was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas Hogan; and two sisters, Mary Hendsey and Margaret McKenna. Irene was a retired nurses aide at the former Mansfield State Training School, Mansfield, after 17 years of service. She was a member of St. Edward Parish. Roger Fecteau, 57, of Stafford Springs, loving husband of Theresa (Wieliczka) Fecteau, passed away Sunday, (January 2, 2000) at Rockville General Hospital. He was born in Rockville, son of the late Oscar Joseph and Irene (Foisy) Fecteau. Before his retirement, he was employed by Amerbelle Corp. for over 20 years. Roger was a great inspiration to many, after recently becoming a double amputee, he showed his courage and strength by continuing his love of trout fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. He will truly be missed by all who knew him and they will always remember his passions and love of life. Besides his wife he is survived by Raymond and Steve Fecteau, both of Rockville; three daughters, Darlene and Theresa Monique Fecteau, both of Stafford Springs, Ramona and her husband Kenneth Meek of Rockville; and their two children, James and Kayleigh Meek. Kenneth R. Floto, 91, of East St., Stafford Springs, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000), at his home. He was the widow of the late Veronica (Fagan) Floto who died on Oct. 2, 1994. He was born in New Britain, son of the late Henry & Laura (Hickton) Floto. Ken was a licensed barber for 60 years and owned and operated Ken's Barber Shop in Stafford from 1931 until his retirement. Prior to that, he was an instructor at the Hartford Academy of Hairdressing and also worked for Shultz Beauty Salons. He was the originator of one of the first permanent wave solutions and expert on finger waving popular in the 2O's; serving silent film stars such as Laura LaPlante when they played at the State Theater in Hartford. He was a member of St. Edward Parish. Kenneth is survived by a son, Lary K. Floto; two granddaughters, Stacey Floto and Andrea Floto; a great grandson, Desmond Kenneth Floto, all of Stafford Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Orlando J. "Londo" Francini, 83, of Galotto St., Stafford Springs, died Thursday, (January 27, 2000) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. He was born in Derby, son of the late Joseph and Claudia (Respari) Francini and came to Stafford Springs 76 years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Londo and his wife Dina were the owners of the former Tito's Restaurant for 30 years and then worked at the former McCormack's Drug Co. for many years. He was a member of St. Edward Parish, Rev. Raymond G. Houle, 90, of Hyde Park Rd., Stafford Springs, died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at Blair Manor, Enfield. He was born in East Brookfield, MA, son of the late James and Rose (Girard) Houle. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran from 1945-1949 Director of the Veterans Center in Stafford, then from 1949-1956 held a part time position. He also was the manager of the Olympic Football Teams in the post World War II era. He also was a historian for the Town of Stafford and presented many slide shows for civic organizations and schools. Raymond was a retired school teacher for the Town of Stafford after 39 years of service and also was the Audio-Visual Director for the Town of Stafford School Systems. He was a member of St. Edward Parish and wrote Four Historical Notes of St. Edward Church Early History of Stafford. Rev. Felix J. O'Neil Council #1395 Knights of Colombus and was their financial secretary for 23 years, Honorary life member of the Conn. State Board of Approved Basketball Officials and also coached the Olympic and K of C Baseball teams. Raymond is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law Lionel (Lee) and Angelina Houle of Newport, RI; Hector Houle of Stafford Springs; a brother-in-law William M. Nugent of Stafford Springs, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Houle and two sisters, Gladys Briden and Edith Nugent. She was born in South Paris, ME, daughter of the late Emil and Hilma (Hytonen) Paakkonen. She was a retired clerk for Hartford Dispatch Co., East Hartford, after 20 years of service. John J. Poehler, 64, of Monson Rd., Stafford Springs, died Monday, (May 29, 2000) at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Springfield, MA, son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Smith) Poehler. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Independent Window & House Cleaning Co., Inc. of West Hartford for 20 years and then retired from Window Wipers of Farmington, after 10 years of service. John is survived by his loving wife Dorothy (Jacobsen) Poehler; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marlene P. and William D. Barnett and Lori P. STAFFORD SPRINGS Frederick "Fred" Sobiela, 91, formerly of Westford Ave., Stafford Springs, and Bokeelia, FL, died Saturday (February 5, 2000) at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs. He was the widower of the late Helen (Brodersen) Sobiela who died on March 4, 1993. Fred was born in Manchester, son of the late Fred and Anna (Johnson) Sobiela. He was a retired overseer in the finishing department at the former Cyril Johnson Woolen Co. after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Past Master and member for 57 years of the Ionic Lodge No. 110 AF & AM. Fred is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Andy Ference. Everett F. Spellman, 65, of Monson Rd., Stafford Springs, died Sunday, (May 28, 2000) at his home. He was born in Palmer, MA, son of Julia and the late Alonzo Spellman, and was a U.S. Army veteran. Everett worked at the former Stafford Printers where he was a master printer for 27 years. He then worked at Warren Woolen Co. where he was a third generation worker and then retired from Bridge Manufacturing Co. of Enfield, where he was a machine operator. He was a member of the Scantic Valley Engine Club and the Connecticut Genealogical Society. He liked trains, nature, gardening, local history, and genealogical studies. Everett is survived by two sons, William E. Spellman and Stephen D. Stanley B. Symonds, 80, the youngest son of the late William and Sarah Symonds, died Friday, (June 9, 2000). He was a lifelong resident of Stafford. Stanley served in the Pacific area during World War II, where he met and married his wife, Thelma. Stanley was foreman of the carpenter shop at Mansfield State Training School for 35 years at the time of his retirement. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Stafford Springs, serving as trustee chairperson, and Men's Club president for many years. He also served as highway commissioner for the Borough of Stafford Springs at the time of Consolidation of the Town and Borough governments. Stanley is survived by his wife Thelma, after 56 wonderful years; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Peg Symonds; and a brother, William and his wife Helen, all of Stafford Springs; a brother, John and wife Doris; and a sister, Barbara and husband Lesster Gauvain, all of Nokomis, FL, there are also many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives in this country and in Australia. Frank was a graduate of Stafford High School, Class of 1996, and was employed as a dog trainer with his family at the New England K-9 Center in Stafford. Beverly R. Vredenburg, 58, of Westford Ave., Stafford Springs, died Tuesday, (January 18, 2000) peacefully at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Paul F. and Agnes (Wilson) Reed. She was a graduate of Bay Path College and Springfield College. Bev was a child counselor at the Receiving Home in East Windsor, alcohol and drug counselor at Stafford Human Services, and retired from Tolland Agricultural Center, a division of the University of CT Cooperative Extension System, where she was an administrative assistant. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, 4-H Advisory Committee of Tolland County, Reddington Rock Riding Club, CT Trail Riders Assoc., Stafford Horseman's Assoc., and many other organizations. She devoted her time and effort in activities that benefitted others. She gave of herself unselfishly. Beverly is survived by her husband, William W. Vredenburg of Stafford Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Jennifer Vredenburg of York, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Adrienne and Brian M. Garris of Newberry, SC; brother, Paul Reed of Hixson, TN; and two nieces. Hildegard R. (Rickett) Wilde, 69, of Tolland, widow of Cole W. Wilde, died Saturday, (April 8, 2000) at Rockville General Hospital. She was a longtime member of the United Congregational Church of Tolland. Hildegard was a loving and caring person who enjoyed fishing and the outdoors with her family. Willis who died on July 24, 1994, and was predeceased by a grandson, William N. Irving, Jr., who died on June 12, 1991. Nora was a waitress at the former Palace Restaurant for 20 years and then worked as a store clerk at the former Sullivan Pharmacy for five years. Kevin Brian Winslow, 42, of Newington, died Wednesday (February 2, 2000). He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Stephan) Winslow. He was raised in New Britain, was a graduate of New Britain High School, and was a Newington resident for the past 20 years. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts and Manchester Shooting Club. Salvino S. Yetz, 78, of Newington, died Friday, (February 11, 2000) at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lora (Eukers) Yetz. Born in Lee, MA, Mr. Yetz lived in Rockville most of his life before moving to Newington a few years ago. He formerly owned and operated Sal's Motor Sales, Rockville, and retired from Rockville General Hospital, as asst. director of engineering, after ten years of employment. Mr. Yetz was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 352nd Fighter Group and was a member of the American Legion Post #14. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Rockville Fish & Game Club. Mr. Yetz is survived by a son, Michael J. Yetz of Newington; two daughters, Rev. Wilhelmine Zecher, 98, widow of Edgar Zecher, died Tuesday, (February 1, 2000) at Evergreen Healthcare Center in Stafford. She was born in Hamburg, Germany, and immigrated to this country-as did her husband-in 1926. Together they operated a wholesale linen import business. For many years they lived in Midland Park, NJ. Her husband was a founder of the Black Forest Colony, a community in Glen Spey, NY, where they settled upon their retirement. Wilhelmine (affectionately known to many as "Omi") is survived by two daughters, Rosemarie Martinique of Hudson, FL, and Sigi King of Stafford Springs; five grandchildren, Joseph Morley, John Morley of Cooper City, FL, Karen Ponton of Bloomfield, NJ, David King of Midland Park, NJ, and Kimberly Kessler of Tolland. She was predeceased by a grandson, Michael King. Funeral services will be Sat., at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment at the Black Forest Colony Cemetery at a later date.

ANDOVER, STAFFORD AND ENFIELD

Joseph "Buddy" F. Zimmerman, 78, of Bunker Hill Road, Andover, husband of Emerald F. (Deron) Zimmerman, died Saturday (January 29, 2000) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford, Buddy was a former resident of Enfield and Stafford, moving to Andover in 1970. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was employed as a tool maker for Flanagan Brothers of Glastonbury for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Besides his wife, Buddy is survived by two sons, Robert J. Blandin of Stafford, and Joseph F. Zimmerman III of Andover; three daughters, Pamela Guzzardi of Portland, ME, Diane J. Napier of Canton, and Jill F. Collins of Lebanon; a brother, Robert Zimmerman of East Hampton, NY; a sister, Susan Patterson of Quincy, MA; and three grandchildren. Buddy was predeceased by a daughter, Holly E. Zimmerman who died in 1993. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m., at St. Columbia Church, (Routes 66 & 87), Columbia. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in Buddy's memory may be made to the Holly E. Zimmerman Foundation, c/o E.C.S.U. Athletic Dept., 83 Windham Street, Willimantic, 06226. Leete-Stevens, Enfield Chapels, and Crematory, 61 South Road, Enfield are caring for the arrangements.
