The CCFHA would like your help to further
identify and collect details about the many variant spellings encountered
in the various lines. Your help is needed. Please submit any additions
or amplifying details to Gale Corson: [email protected] |
The listings below are from a brief survey of some of the more
common sources. Our goal is to expand these listings with more about
which line, group or individual it was associated; the time period and
relative frequency that it is encountered; and the source(s) where it is
found.
Toward that goal the list will eventually be categorized:
Major variants - Large lines or family groups found
using this name; also other spellings with multiple sources and/or commonly
found.
Minor variants - Misspellings*; small groups or single
individuals; rare occurrences.
*Misspellings, it might be noted, may in some cases not have been the fault
of the writer, but may have resulted from the incorrect interpretation
of early handwriting styles and/or faded or illegible copy.
