CENSUS TRANSCRIPTION

 

A small group of volunteers working with CCFHA sponsorship is transcribing the 1850 census records from Lycoming Co, Pennsylvania. CCFHA member Gale Corson is heading the team effort in cooperation with the national Census Project.  Members of the team:  Kay Pease, Vickie Enick, T. Ossmann, Michael Corson, and Gale Corson; Frank Embon was also an early participant.  Contact Gale Corson <[email protected]> with any questions.

"Why Lycoming County 1850?" you ask.  Because the need for a transcription was identified, and because a sizable number of Corson families were living there at the time. ***

From initial reports, the team has transcribed data for eight townships so far:  Anthony [Creek], Armstrong, Cogan House, Mcintyre, Montoursville Borough, Plunketts Creek, Porter, and Shrewsbury. The process is progressing rapidly and further work has likely already been completed.   The compilations were being uploaded (in 2004) as part of overall census transcription projects on these two sites:
