Submitted by Nancy Plain-- As seen reprinted in the Norwalk Reflector on May 19, 2010 A4. Blast from the Past; May 19, 1942; Norwalk Reflector-Herald. Wife of former Norwalk Japanese Restaurant man reported suicide. Mrs. Marie OKAGI, 54, wife of the Vermilion restaurant man, M. OKAGI, the latter a former restaurant proprietor in Norwalk, was found dead yesterday in a motor car parked in the family garage. Dr. C.E. Weigand, Erie County Coroner, it is stated, will render a verdict of suicide. Dr. Weigand, it is given out, said that when the woman's body was discovered, the garage door was closed and the motor of the car was running. The husband, a native of Japan, was proprietor of the old Arlington Restaurant on W. Main St., here and is ranked as one of the leading restaurant men on the Lake Shore district. Born in France, Mrs. OKAGI had the pronounced aptitude in the preparation of meals, for which her race is noted, and proved very helpful to her husband's establishments. She was educated and received nurse's training in England. More than 30 years ago she came to the United States, where she met Mr. OKAGI.

A few days ago Nancy sent some more "Blasts from the Past" including the announcement of the death by suicide of Marie OKAGI. The couple went on to Vermillion after leaving Norwalk and I have found a neat site that tells more about them and their restaurant there. I would like to know more about their restaurant in Norwalk, the Arlington, and anything more about the couple themselves, scanned photos would be nice sent to my e-mail address. I do not find either of the couple in 1910 census in Ohio, he may still be in Seattle, under M. OKAGI, the age would be right. They were in Vermillion by 1920 and it appears they had a child born with a serious heart defect and died the same day, in 1919. No more natural born children that I can see after that. Hayes does have obituaries fro both and I will be getting those. The reason for Mrs. OKAGI's suicide was because she had incurable cancer.

Could some kind soul see if they can find a burial for the following two individuals? William SCOVILL, born 1787, died 1860 in New Haven Huron Co. 10 years earlier he was living in Groton Twp. in Erie Co., Ohio, with his wife Azuba (Asubah). She was also born in 1787 but I have no death date for her.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - I found the burial for William SCOVILL(E), but nothing on wife Azuba/Asubah SCOVILLE. Details. Source- Erie County, Ohio Cemetery Census, before 1909, published 1989. Page 116. Sand Hill Cemetery, Groton Twp. SCOVILLE, William d. Sept. 9, 1860 74 yrs. 7 m. 24 d. The only other cemetery in Groton Twp is Deyo Cemetery, but Azuba was not found there either. FamilySearch.org shows "Azubah" as marrying William SCOVILL 14 January 1808. I could find nothing firm on Azuba SCOVILLE in GenWeb for the county of Erie, OH, or in the Cemetery Index for Huron County, OH.

Gloria Ishida Look Up Results - This may give another hint on Azubah- The 1860 census was enumerated in Groton, August 22, 1860. They were both alive. Obviously, Wm died a month later. I could not find her on the 1880 census in Erie County, nor in other counties in case she was living with a family member. Are you researching more about Wm?

I understand you can provide pictures of tombstones. I am interested in Catherine 393, John 101(2), Lydia S. 822, and William S. 393, if they are my ancestors. The numbers refer to ABBOTTs in the cemetary inscription book index at the Huron County Genealogy Society. Either pictures of tombstones or copies of entries in the book would be helpful. At this point I don't remember why I asked for Catherine, but I am looking for relatives who died in Huron. There are several John ABBOTTs in the family in that area. One I have listed as having died in 1844 or 47. Elsewhere it is listed as 1847. (born, 1783) I have his wife as Clarissa SIZER ABBOTT, but don't know when or where she died. William Seymour ABBOTT lived for a long time in New Haven, Huron, but died in Henry Wood 25 Oct 1882. He could have been buried in Huron with other relatives. Actually, it would please me and save trouble if I could get someone to look up in the inscription book those folks and just copy down the inscription; then I could better decide about having pictures taken.

Thank you for helping me find my GrGrGrGr Grandfather William SCOVILL, and trying to find Azuba, his wife. I do believe, that this Asuba SCOVILL in the 1870 census is my GrGrGrGr Grandmother. With such an unusual first name and surname, I'm thinking this is her for sure! So after William died in Huron/Erie Co., Ohio, she must have moved out to Indiana to be with her daughter, since her other 2 children Joseph and William, Jr. were already deceased. I'll do more investigating on her. So I _*thank you*_ all, for all your help! The headstone photos are wonderful and info on William's burial site was a thrill! I love that I have another generation added to my family tree!! Thanks to Chris for the SCOVILLE message groups info! And Norma, thank you for asking for help in the first place! That was brilliant!! :-) If anyone needs the SCOVILL/SCOVEL/SCOVIL/SCOVILLE family info, just ask. I have a bunch, clear back to the 1300s!! My Grandmother was Grace SCOVILLE ROBERTS, born in Akron, Ohio.

I recently acquired the obituary of my gggrandmother, Diana SMITH BOWLES, who died in New London Ohio in 1895. From the New London Record- Mrs. BOWLES, for forty years a resident of New London, died on Thursday last at an advanced age. She is said to have been the daughter of a well to do Englishman, and when a girl received a good education. Fortune was fickle and fled from her, and on Saturday her remains found rest in the paupers portion of the village cemetery, her funeral expense being borne by the township. Can anyone tell me in 1895, what cemetery was considered the "Village" cemetery?

Desperately need information on the Huron County Infirmary in Norwalk. Would like to get a hold of some records. There is an Elmer DAY buried there that died in 1897 at the age of 36. Need someone that can find me records of the history of the place, what was going on, and why this person was there.

My great grandfather, John Keller, was born in Peru Township, Huron County, in 1836. His father died in 1839, and his mother remarried to John Leffler around 1840. John, the younger, appears to have left Ohio to move on to Nebraska between 1860 and 1870. He was a carriage maker and a blacksmith. I am in possession of a match case that family tradition holds was originally owned by him, It is a tin case emblazoned with the arms of the *Junior Order United American Mechanics* and a pastoral homestead scene. It is the only possible possession of his that I have. I know that the order was very active in the the Huron area. The order operated the National Orphan's Home in near by Tiffin, Ohio from 1896 to 1944. I am interested in finding out if the *Junior Order United American Mechanics* had a Chapter in Huron County. If they did, are there any records of the Chapter that could confirm my great grandfather's membership? Thank you for your time, and any help that you can offer.
